We’re Hiring: Fantasy Sports Writer (Freelance) at Operation Sports

Operation Sports is the internet’s premier destination for sports video game coverage, where hardcore sports fans and sim gamers come together. Now, we’re expanding into Fantasy Sports coverage, and we’re hiring writers to help us build this new vertical.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking sharp, passionate writers who don’t just watch sports—they play them. In fantasy leagues, that is.

You know the thrill of building a winning roster. You’ve debated waiver wire pickups, lost sleep over injury reports, and built spreadsheets to optimize your weekly matchups. Whether it’s NFL, NBA, MLB, or niche fantasy formats, you know how to analyze, project, and advise.

This is a remote freelance role, perfect for writers who understand the fantasy sports audience and can deliver timely, insightful content that helps readers win their leagues.

We’re Looking for Writers Who:

  • Have deep knowledge of Fantasy FootballFantasy Baseball, or Fantasy Basketball
  • Can confidently write one or more of the following:

Weekly Waiver Wire ColumnsStart/Sit AdviceDraft Strategy GuidesFeature Analysis, or Opinion Pieces

(You don’t have to do it all—just let us know what you do best!)

  • Understand the fantasy player’s mindset and know how to make data-driven advice easy to understand
  • Are fluent in English with strong grammar and editorial skills
  • Can provide 1–3 writing samples (especially if you’ve written about fantasy sports or sports analysis)

Pay Expectations

  • U.S. writers: Paid freelance rates per article
  • International writers: Hourly contract (part-time or full-time depending on region)
  • All roles have the opportunity to grow into a larger or full-time position

Interview Process

  1. Resume & Application Review
  2. Short Writing Sample Test
  3. Interview with the Managing Editor

To Apply

Please include:

  • Your resume
  • 1–3 relevant writing samples (ideally fantasy or sports writing)
  • A brief cover letter outlining your fantasy sports experience—what leagues or formats do you know best, and what content could you own?

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
