Why this posting exists

We don't have a perfectly titled role waiting for you here and that's exactly the point.

Some of the best people we've worked with didn't fit a job description on the day we met them. They were builders, operators, and problem-solvers who showed up, got how we think, and found (or created) the place where they could do their best work. This posting is for them. It's for you.

If you're drawn to what we're building at Plug and you can see yourself thriving in an early-stage, high-ownership environment, we want to be connected even if the title doesn't exist yet.

About Plug

Plug is an online marketplace built exclusively for electric vehicles, where consumers, dealers, and commercial partners trade in, sell, and auction used EVs. Consumers can get an instant cash offer in minutes, backed by data-driven pricing, battery state-of-health analysis, with pickup, payment, and title transfer handled end-to-end. Every vehicle Plug acquires is liquidated through a competitive wholesale auction, where franchise and independent dealers across the United States bid in real time on inventory sourced directly from consumers, dealers, and commercial partners. The result is a single platform that gives sellers a fast, fair exit and gives dealers a dedicated channel for sourcing used EV inventory. Founded in 2023 and led by former Tesla executives, Plug has facilitated nearly $100M in EV sales since launch and is backed by a $20M Series A from Lightspeed Venture Partners. Plug is and is building the AI-native transaction rails behind the used EV market's exponential growth. Visit to learn more plugmotors.com.

Who we're looking for

We care far more about how you operate than the exact box your résumé fits in. The people who do well here tend to:

  • Own outcomes, not tasks. You see what needs to happen and move, without waiting for permission or a perfect spec.

  • Move fast and stay honest. You'd rather ship, learn, and adjust than polish something in private for a month. When you're wrong, you say so quickly.

  • Get your hands dirty. No job is beneath you. Early-stage means the founder, the lead, and the newest hire might all be doing the unglamorous work side by side.

  • Think from first principles. You question the default, but you do the homework before you do — you're not contrarian for its own sake.

  • Raise the bar around you. People do their best work near you, and you make the team better than the sum of its parts.

  • Operate well in ambiguity. Missing context doesn't paralyze you; you make a reasonable call, flag your assumptions, and keep moving.

We're function-agnostic on this posting: engineering, operations, go-to-market, product, design, finance, people, whatever your edge is. If the traits above sound like you, the function will sort itself out in conversation.

How we work

We're a startup, and we mean it. Small team, big surface area, real stakes. You'll have an unusual amount of influence and a correspondingly unusual amount of responsibility. We default to trust, direct feedback, and a fast pace and we protect the people doing the work with real benefits and a culture that doesn't confuse "intense" with "careless."

What to include in your application

Help us see the person, not just the bullet points:

  • A short note on why Plug. What about what we're building pulls at you.

  • A quick line on where you think you'd add the most value, and why.

  • Anything that shows your work - a project you owned end to end, something you built, shipped, or fixed. Links welcome.

A résumé is fine, but the note is what we'll read first.

What to expect next

We read every open application. If there's a fit — now or as we grow — we'll reach out to start a conversation. Even when the timing isn't right, strong applicants often hear from us later when the right opening appears. We try to be respectful of your time and clear about where things stand.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
