Job Description

The Onsite System Manager is an in person position dedicated to the office and federal customers located in Washington D.C. The Onsite System Manager MUST reside near/within Washington, D.C. to be available for 24/7 rotation of support 365 days of the year. 

  • Support and optimize complex communication systems, specifically focusing on Motorola Land Mobile Radio Products, including state-of-the-art Motorola MOTOTRBO. This involves daily maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and customer training.

  • Provide advanced technical assistance for specialized systems and product applications. This includes in-depth troubleshooting of software-driven electronics.

  • Serve as the main point-of-contact for support related to USPS’s Motorola Solutions Radio System.

  • Handle the provisioning of communication system infrastructure.

  • Optimize the performance of RF and Broadband architecture, encompassing legacy analog, advanced digital P25, and data infrastructure.

  • Program, configure, optimize, test, and document complex communications systems.

  • Utilize comprehensive knowledge of wired communication systems, including local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN).

  • Demonstrate proficiency in computer network installation, configuration, and maintenance, covering cabling, routers, switches, firewalls, and bridges.

  • Install server hardware/OS and software infrastructure, and troubleshoot system/application issues to ensure resolution.

  • Extensive knowledge of RF systems, including transmitters, receivers, and antenna networks.

  • Solid understanding of standard telephony and dedicated data circuits, as well as packet switching techniques.

  • Detailed understanding of Motorola Solutions systems permitting the individual to assist in the design, troubleshooting and maintenance of Motorola Solutions product lines. 

  • Conduct preventative maintenance, emphasizing trend analysis and documenting results to ensure proper system operation.

  • Assist in the development of internal documentation pertaining to system configuration, administration, and troubleshooting.

  • Develop solutions for complex technical issues encountered during system implementation, upgrades, or support.

  • Deliver a superior knowledge of one or more of the following: Motorola Conventional, SmartNet, SmartZone, MCC Console systems, Secure Operations, and ASTRO A7.x Digital systems and installation procedures.

  • Must have experience with Motorola Customer Programming Software and experience with radio subscriber programming.

  • Proficiency in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Windows and Linux server hardware, operating systems, and software infrastructure is essential for resolving system and application issues.

  • Help develop local agency/user surveys.

  • Ensure that Motorola Solutions installed equipment is maintained with FCC and USPS stipulated requirements.

  • Ideally the individual should have at least one network certification: COMPTIA Network + or Security +, CCNA, NRS1

  • Generate weekly reports detailing activities and achievements.

  • High level of computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.

  • Strong interpersonal and self-management skills to effectively collaborate with Motorola customers, subcontractors (MSS), and internal teams (Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and Customer Service).

  • Demonstrated self-motivation and ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.

  • Verbalize and communicate concepts and recommendations to the customers and within the Motorola Solutions organization. 

  • Proven ability to quickly resolve customer issues, especially under pressure.

  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the latest technologies and troubleshooting methods.

  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, and sales teams to effectively design, implement, optimize, and transition advanced communication systems, ensuring customer expectations are met or exceeded.

  • Maintain inventory of Field Replaceable Units.

  • Understanding of IA systems and group policies in a network administrative position.

The preferred candidate will possess significant systems knowledge and at least 3 years of experience with:

  • Channel Banks and T1 Circuits

  • Computer IP Networks and Configuration

  • Strong preference for experience with RF Infrastructure Technologies, including Motorola SmartZone, Smartnet, Console Systems, and ASTRO Conventional and Trunked equipment.

The successful applicant will demonstrate proficiency in operating a range of communication test equipment, including:

  • Communication System Analyzers

  • Ethernet Link test sets

  • T1 Test Sets

  • TIMS (Transmission Impairment Measurement Set)

  • Digital RF Power Meter

Candidate Requirements: 

  • This position requires residing within a one-hour commuting distance of the customer site in Washington, D.C. Candidates living in Virginia or Maryland are eligible to apply.

  • Travel up to 10% for training and customer support.

  • Must have excellent communications skills and always present a professional image.

  • Must have a current, valid driver’s license and no traffic violations

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs of equipment or test equipment.

  • Required to complete Standard Form 89 Questionnaire for National Security Positions.

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract(s)

  • Must be able to provide customer training on infrastructure

  • Must be willing and capable of meeting the requirements to obtain a DHS Public Trust Clearance.

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.

Target Base Salary Range: $80,000 - $120,000 USD

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract(s)
