Position Summary
The ORU Executive Business & Lab Operations leader is a key member of the Oncology Research Unit (ORU) leadership team. This role oversees executive operations, lab operations, and site affairs, ensuring seamless integration of scientific, administrative, and cultural initiatives across multiple sites, including La Jolla and Bothell.
Key Responsibilities
  • Executive Operations:
    Provide strategic business and operational support to the SVP & CSO to enhance the ORU goals, strategies and organizational efficiencies with key internal partners and stakeholders.
  • Create and manage key communications for the Office of the SVP & CSO, including change initiatives and key process improvements.
  • Partner closely with Business Operations across Oncology and the enterprise as needed to facilitate alignment and coordination of strategy, priorities and related communications.
  • Manage the operating rhythm and meeting agendas for ORU LT.
  • Support the compilation of strategic documents, presentations, etc. in collaboration with other partners as needed.
  • Budget & Resource Management:
    Ensure ORU budget oversight and resource allocation to support innovation, operational efficiency, and scientific excellence.
  • Coordinate resource planning and investment strategies.
  • Leadership & Team Development:
    Manage a team of directors and managers across business planning, lab operations, and site affairs. Provide mentorship, performance management, and career development.
  • Lab Operations:
    Oversee scientific laboratory operations, including space planning, equipment management, safety compliance, and process optimization.
  • Site Affairs & ORU Engagement:
    Oversee site affairs and engagement activities to support fostering a vibrant and inclusive workplace culture through colleague engagement programs, communications platforms, and cultural integration initiatives (e.g., JOY programs, All-ORU meetings, site town halls).

Qualifications
  • BS Degree with 12 years, Ms/MBA with 10 years, or PhD with 7 years of experience in life sciences, business administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in biotech/pharma R&D operations, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven leadership experience in biotech/pharma R&D operations, preferably in oncology.
  • Strong background in business operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects.
  • Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and organizational skills.
  • Proven track record managing executive-level coordination in a matrixed organization.
  • Experience supporting scientific leadership across multiple locations.
  • Strong business acumen with experience in budget management and strategic planning.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
  • Familiarity with change management, colleague engagement, and DEI initiatives.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $204,700.00 to $341,100.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 22.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
