About the Role:

MarketWatch is seeking a determined reporter for its technology team to cover Nvidia and the increasingly important semiconductor industry. Microchips are fueling the artificial intelligence boom on Wall Street and Silicon Valley, with ramifications that can be seen in the stock market, the economy and even geopolitics.

You Will:

  • Deliver distinct and consistent coverage of Nvidia, one of the nation's most important companies, along with its rivals and partners, including AMD, Broadcom, and Micron.
  • Stay on top of developments in the semiconductor sector and provide timely analysis on their impact on markets and the broader tech industry.
  • Monitor major semiconductor clients such as Microsoft and track emerging competitors like Google.
  • Investigate and report on how semiconductor companies are working to compete with Nvidia.
  • Analyze policy decisions, including technology transfer restrictions to China, and their implications for the industry.
  • Examine Nvidia's strategy and competitive advantages in the market.
  • Cover relevant corporate earnings and assess their impact on the sector.
  • Write jargon-free, clear financial prose that makes complex topics accessible to readers.
  • Craft sharp and memorable headlines that engage and inform audiences.
  • Gracefully juggle multiple stories a day while maintaining accuracy and depth.
  • Write enterprise articles that provide in-depth insights into the sector.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across MarketWatch, including the Markets and Washington teams, as well as other departments, to enhance coverage.
  • Based in New York, with other locations considered based on merit.

You Have:

  • 3 - 5 years of experience writing on consumer-related platforms
  • Fluency in financial markets and technology
  • Deep interest in semiconductors and their intersection with artificial intelligence
  • Facility with SEO and audience strategies
  • Adept at finding differentiated angles off the news
  • A track record of writing unique, engaging stories
  • Experience producing distinctive coverage on a competitive beat

Pay Range: $100,000 - $120,000
