As an NLP Scientist at Machinify, you will solve complex problems in medical document understanding, optimize models, and apply NLP techniques to enhance healthcare solutions.
The summary above was generated by AI

Machinify is the leading provider of AI-powered software products that transform healthcare claims and payment operations. Each year, the healthcare industry generates over $200B in claims mispayments, creating incredible waste, friction and frustration for all participants: patients, providers, and especially payers. Machinify’s revolutionary AI-platform has enabled the company to develop and deploy, at light speed, industry-specific products that increase the speed and accuracy of claims processing by orders of magnitude.

At Machinify, we're building state-of-the-art Visual Question Answering (VQA) systems for medical records using cutting-edge techniques in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Computer Vision (CV). Our mission is to achieve human-expert level accuracy in medical document analysis — a highly challenging problem where traditional approaches, like vanilla Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), fall short. While we've made significant strides, we're looking for an applied scientist to help us tackle the remaining core features and scale our models.
What We're Looking For: An applied scientist with a passion for solving real-world problems and expertise in NLP and/or CV to push the boundaries of AI-driven healthcare solutions.
Key Responsibilities: Solve complex problems in medical document understanding and question-answering using modern NLP and vision methodologies. Make data-driven decisions on algorithms and techniques tailored to specific business challenges. Work with limited and noisy labeled data, bootstrapping and iterating to improve model output in practical, real-world settings. Continuously evaluate and optimize models for scalability and performance in production environments. * Learn the intricacies of the healthcare domain and evolve into an industry expert over time.
About You: Expertise in NLP and/or Computer Vision: You stay up to date with the latest research and developments in these fast-evolving fields. Strong Software Engineering Skills: You write clean, production-quality code and are comfortable building scalable solutions.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
