Our mission

We're making Africa the first cashless continent.

In 2017, over half the population in Sub-Saharan Africa had no bank account. That's for good reason—the fees are too high, the closest branch can be miles away, and nobody takes cards. Without access to financial institutions, people are forced to keep their savings under the mattress. Small business owners rely on lenders who charge extortionate rates. Parents spend hours waiting in line to pay school fees in cash.

We're solving this by building financial services that just work: no account fees, instantly available, and accepted everywhere. In places where electricity, water and roads don't always work, you can still send money with Wave. In 2017, we launched a mobile app in Senegal for cash deposit, withdrawal, and peer-to-peer and business payments. Now, we have millions of users across six countries and are growing fast.

Our goal is to make Africa the first cashless continent and that's where you come in...

How you'll help us achieve it

Wave is now the largest financial institution in Senegal, with over 7 million users. And, we’re still in the early days of our product roadmap and potential impact on people’s everyday lives.

We’re looking for a growth analytics Product Manager with exceptional data skills to help us grow quickly and in the right way in new markets. This role is perfect for someone who’s operated at the intersection of hands-on data analytics, product, and market strategy, and thrives in ambiguity. You’ll partner closely with data, product, and field teams to deeply understand customer needs, evaluate what’s working (and what’s not), and build the right strategies to scale sustainably.

You should be highly comfortable digging into large, messy datasets yourself and uncovering insights that shape product strategy and growth. You won’t be relying on a dedicated data analyst for this: the ability to self-serve, clean, analyse, and interpret data independently is critical to success in this role.

In this role, you'll;

  • Come up with ideas to help us grow in new markets. You’ll test these ideas, work with country teams to try them out, and write your own queries to see what worked.
  • Work closely with our operations and product teams. You’ll look at customer and merchant data, create charts or visuals, and use the insights to help improve the experience for users and the business.
  • Spot blockers and work with others to fix them. You’ll try new approaches, gather feedback, and keep improving.
  • Monitor performance metrics and market feedback to assess progress and iterate rapidly.
  • Partner with engineers, analysts, and market operators to scope and prioritize experiments or feature launches.
Key details
  • You can work remotely from anywhere within 2hrs of GMT with reliable Internet access.
  • Wave covers travel once per year to one of our operating countries in Africa, as well as a yearly stipend of $1200 to meet with coworkers.
  • You will be expected to travel ~20% of the time.
  • Our salaries are competitive and are calculated using a transparent formula. For this role, depending on your level and location, we offer a salary of up to  $136,100 USD (paid in your local currency equivalent), plus a generous equity package.
  • Major benefits:
    • Subsidized health insurance for you and your dependents and retirement contributions (both vary from country to country).
    • 6 months of fully paid parental leave and subsidized fertility assistance.
    • Flexible vacation, with most folks taking between 21-30 days exclusive of statutory holidays.
    • $10,000 annual charitable donation matching.
Requirements
  • 5+ years experience as a Product Manager, Data Analyst, Business Analyst, Product Analyst, Product Operations Analyst or similar.
  • Strong SQL skills and expertise in manipulating and analyzing data.
  • Experience operating in emerging markets is required. You’ve spent time in an operating role (not just advisory) in an emerging market, with hands-on exposure to scaling products, operations, or growth initiatives in that environment.
  • Demonstrated experience owning projects and/or products independently.
  • Experience working with operational teams.
  • Experience with data visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI, Looker, etc.)
  • Strong hands-on data analytics and experience extracting and communicating insights to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English. French is a bonus.
You might be a good fit if you
  • Have worked in product, with a specific focus on growth.
  • Have hands-on data analytics experience, dealing with large, messy datasets without solely relying on the data team.
  • Have experience launching or scaling products in emerging markets within a fintech, mobile money, or mission-driven startup.
  • Are experienced in running growth focussed a/b tests.
  • Are comfortable with extensive travel.
  • Are comfortable navigating the challenges of growth in complex, resource-constrained environments.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
