Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all .
Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.
At Micron Technology, Inc. in Manassas, Virginia (MTV), our engineering teams support high-volume semiconductor manufacturing by sustaining and improving process stability, yield, quality, cost, and productivity. Process Engineers collaborate across Process Integration (PIE), Equipment Engineering (EE/ME), Yield, Defect/Metrology, Manufacturing, suppliers, and sister sites to deliver reliable manufacturing performance and continuous improvement.
As a Process Engineer, you will begin your career by developing ownership of Diffusion, Implant, and/or Rapid Thermal Processing (RTP) processes in our high-volume manufacturing (HVM) fab. Experienced engineers will support you through a structured training plan as you build technical knowledge and progress toward full ownership of assigned processes and improvement projects. You will use manufacturing data and fab systems such as Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Fault Detection and Classification (FDC) to identify issues, optimize processes, and support high-quality die output.
Responsibilities
  • Own and sustain assigned Diffusion, Implant, and/or RTP processes, including monitoring SPC, FDC, process parameters, recipes, specifications, and established reaction plans; respond to abnormalities and escalate potential yield or quality risks appropriately.
  • Investigate process excursions and manufacturing issues using structured problem-solving and data-analysis methods such as root cause analysis, 5-Why, 8D, and Design of Experiments (DOE); partner with PIE, Yield, Defect/Metrology, Equipment Engineering, and Manufacturing on corrective actions.
  • Improve process capability, uniformity, yield, throughput, productivity, and cost by designing and executing experiments, analyzing process and equipment data, implementing best known methods (BKMs), and supporting continuous-improvement projects.
  • Support new equipment installations and qualifications, tool-to-tool matching, preventive-maintenance recovery, hardware and material evaluations, supplier activities, and formal process or hardware change-control documentation.
  • Maintain accurate process and training documentation and use Micron-approved AI and AI-Enabled workflows to improve productivity, efficiency, data analysis, and decision quality while following applicable company requirements.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • 0-2 years of semiconductor process engineering or related experience, which may include internships, co-ops, or academic research.
  • Demonstrated understanding of semiconductor fabrication processes and semiconductor device physics through coursework, research, or professional experience.
  • Experience designing experiments and analyzing engineering data through academic coursework, research, internships, or professional experience, including exposure to statistics and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Demonstrated technical communication, documentation, organization, and time-management skills, with the ability to work hands-on in a cleanroom and manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Academic, research, internship, or professional experience with Diffusion, Ion Implantation, RTP, or related semiconductor manufacturing processes.
  • Experience applying DOE, SPC, 5-Why, 8D, or other structured statistical and root-cause-analysis methods to technical problems.
  • Experience analyzing manufacturing or engineering data to identify trends, process variation, yield issues, or improvement opportunities.
  • Experience with semiconductor manufacturing equipment, equipment qualification, process recipes, FDC, or other manufacturing control systems.
  • Experience collaborating across engineering disciplines on technical projects, equipment/process changes, or continuous-improvement activities.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
