We are looking for an Associate Network Platform Engineer to join our team and help support the online infrastructure behind our next hit AAA title. In this role, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers to build, maintain, and operate backend services for large-scale online multiplayer games. You will assist in developing services and APIs used directly by the game, as well as tools and systems that support our online game infrastructure.
This is a great opportunity for an early-career engineer who is excited to learn, grow, and contribute to live game systems.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in building and maintaining distributed backend systems, both player-facing and internal
  • Support the deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting of online services
  • Help integrate external APIs, including platform first parties and infrastructure providers
  • Participate in investigating performance, reliability, and cost-related issues
  • Contribute to documentation and operational best practices for networked systems
  • Collaborate closely with senior engineers, production, and other disciplines
  • Play the game and help identify real-world service and connectivity issues

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Foundational experience with server-side or backend programming concepts
  • Exposure to concurrent or asynchronous programming in a managed language
    • We primarily use Kotlin, but JVM experience is not required—tell us about the backend languages and tools you’ve worked with
  • Familiarity with databases or data storage technologies (relational or NoSQL)
  • Basic understanding of API design and the tradeoffs between performance and persistence
  • Experience or coursework involving automation, scripting, deployment, or monitoring tools
  • Comfortable working at a Linux command line
  • A willingness to learn, ask questions, and grow into larger ownership over time
Preferences
  • Interest in or exposure to game development or online multiplayer systems
  • Familiarity with gaming platforms such as Xbox Live, Steamworks, or PlayStation Network
  • Introductory experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.)
  • Exposure to infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar)
  • Experience collaborating with or supporting a network or operations team
  • Internships, personal projects, or academic work involving networking, backend systems, or distributed services
Benefits

Some of the benefits and perks our employees get to enjoy, include:

  • 100% Medical, Dental, Vision Coverage for you and your family
  • 401k Matching
  • Student Loan Repayment Plan / College Savings Plan

  • Fully Stocked Kitchen + Sponsored Food Trucks

The estimated base pay range for this role is: $70,000 - $110,000

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
