Project Engineer

About the role

Passionate about network infrastructure? Your next role will ensure the networks we manage will exceed the expectations of our clients. We’re on the lookout for a knowledgeable and customer-oriented Network Engineer. We touch the lives of binge-watching, music-loving, game-playing, finals-taking, seminar-attending, class-selecting students by providing IT infrastructure that meets the needs of today’s technology-savvy generation.

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Network Engineer. The primary responsibility of this role is to design new networks in a Managed Service Provider (MSP) environment, which will constitute 80% of the work. The remaining 20% will involve serving as an escalation point for the Network Operations Center (NOC). This position requires expert-level knowledge in routing, switching, and Wi-Fi, combined with a customer service mindset. Candidates based in Atlanta, Austin, or Las Vegas preferred.

What you’ll be doing

As part of the engineering team, you’ll play a vital role in designing and implementing new networks in an MSP environment. At all levels, colleagues will rely on your attention to detail. It’s a role with a lot of variety, and day-to-day, you’ll mainly be involved with:

  • Plan and implement network upgrades and maintenance windows.

  • Mentor and train junior-level engineers.

  • Assist the engineering group in streamlining procedures and refining SOPs.

  • Provide project implementation support during business and occasionally off-business hours.

  • Create and update network infrastructure documentation.

  • Act as a liaison between the engineering group and client staff, both technical and non-technical personnel.

  • Manage working relationships with other business units and maintain effective cross-functional communications.

  • Work closely with project management staff to meet project milestones.

  • Manage and test ILEC/CLEC circuit cut-overs and upgrades.

  • Contribute to the overall environment and camaraderie of the group.

  • Complete additional tasks as assigned.

  • Resolve simple to complex network outages and service interruptions with little supervision.

  • Provide timely and accurate ticket updates to appropriate stakeholders.

  • Follow MAC procedures and other department SOPs.

  • Develop and apply testing and troubleshooting plans.

  • May require performing onsite surveys for both wired and wireless access.

  • Work in a group/team setting.

What you’ll bring

Think you could make a difference here? We’re looking for someone who genuinely cares about the welfare of our team. You’ll want to make an impact from day one. With big ideas about how to improve our culture and the knowledge to get people on board. You will also have some of the following:

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience supporting large-scale enterprise/ISP networks in a 24/7/365 environment.

  • CCNP

  • Expert-level knowledge of WAN technologies such as Metro-E, MPLS, and EVPLs.

  • Strong experience working in a Cisco switching and routing environment.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
