This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (San Antonio, TX, Frisco, TX, Houston, TX, Brea, CA, Los Angeles, CA, Walnut Creek, CA, Overland Park, KS) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

The Underwriting Associate reports to Operations and provides key support to the Multinational Underwriting division. Primary duties include the review and underwriting of a renewal book of business per defined underwriting authority. Account handling including re-qualifying, quoting and binding accounts, handling broker queries and policy and endorsement administration. This position serves as a key resource and point of contact for Brokers, Underwriting as well as Operations Staff. 

Responsibilities:

The Underwriting Associate has limited renewal Underwriting authority and performs designated underwriting accountabilities. The ideal candidate for this position demonstrates an understanding of Underwriting guidelines, risk acceptance, coverage forms and rating of accounts appropriate for their level of authority.  Works with an assigned team and provides support to members of the underwriting community in the areas of underwriting operations, procedures, policy qualifying, rating, quoting and binding within underwriting authority.  Establishes contacts through email/phone communication and by visiting brokers where/when appropriate.

Completes the Underwriting process within defined authority including:

  • Comparing  information from submitted requests to policy output documents to verify accuracy and completeness during the underwriting process

  • Review and verification of underwriting data, such as name, address, description of operations, exposures, risk selection, loss data and rating to determine risk eligibility. 

  • Examination of correspondence from insured’s or their representatives, original insurance applications, and other company documents to determine if changes are needed and effects of changes. 

  • Review, rate, quote and bind risks within UW authority and guidelines including proper file documentation. Record quotes not taken up or missed opportunities in system of record.

  • Determination that account is compliant with state regulations.

  • Providing excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.

Qualifications

  • 2+ year experience as a Commercial Insurance Account Manager required

  • Multinational experience preferred

  • Demonstrated understanding of Underwriting Guidelines, coverage’s and forms; prior authority approval a plus

  • Knowledge of the following primary insurance coverage's: Workers Compensation, Auto, General Liability, Property

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities

  • Technical expert; MS Office with a strong emphasis with Excel

  • Detail oriented and ability to multi-task

  • Excellent Written and verbal communication skills 

  • Functional knowledge of Commercial Lines rating experience

  • Strong Customer Service and Relationship Building skills

  • Effective Communication Skills / Written and Verbal

  • Good Automation Skills and strong technical ability

  • Professional Demeanor

  • Ability to shift work efforts quickly and make decisions in a fast past environment

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$67,600 - $101,400
