General Description:
Become a member of a team that produces world's fastest GaN transistors and MMICs. Growth opportunities for enthusiastic candidates will include team development, techniques and processes to improve quality and reproducibility of epitaxial materials to support current production activities, development and fabrication of test structures to characterize epi, development of new epi metrology techniques and cross-correlation of MMIC device performance with epi characteristics, etc, supporting both mature and research-level device technologies.
Essential Duties:
Operate Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) and/or Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) systems used to deposit the world's fastest GaN transistors.
Perform epitaxial layer characterization, perform epi-associated wafer fabrication functions, and develop new epi recipes.
Perform regular maintenance of the epitaxy systems and supporting equipment (Rouging Pumps, Cryo pumps, Turbo pumps) with the help of others during maintenance campaigns.
Tool ownership (i.e. operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, inventory, spares etc.) is required.
Support new and existing programs that require research-level processes to be developed.
Required Skills:
This is an entry level position. Candidates with relevant experience will be given higher consideration.
The job requires identifying and solving complex GaN MBE—and MOCVD-related problems, generating key technical reports, and employing analytical methods to solve technical problems.
Basic familiarity with semiconductor materials engineering and characterization techniques is desired.
Familiarity with epi growth tools such as MOCVD and MBE is a plus; familiarity with ultra-high vacuum (UHV) hardware and good UHV practices is a plus.
Excellent problem-solving skills with good mechanical aptitude and strong organizational skills

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene
Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.
Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech
- Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
- Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
- Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
- Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
