Who you are

The Metropolis Policy Fellowship is a six-month student mentorship initiative designed to cultivate future leaders in public policy, emerging technologies, and urban studies. This program offers hands-on research experience, direct mentorship from senior leaders at Metropolis, and a flexible commitment tailored to complement your academic schedule.

As a Policy Fellow, you will conduct an independent research project and produce a policy paper on a topic related to AI and emerging technologies, urban policy, mobility and parking, or the recognition economy.

A $3,000 cash stipend will be provided upon successful completion of the program to be used toward educational expenses. Compensation for air travel and two nights of hotel stay for the final reception in Nashville will be provided for New York and Los Angeles fellows.

The Metropolis Government Affairs team will also make a reasonable effort to recommend the publication of the best reports externally or publish a shortened version on the Metropolis blog.

What you'll do
  • Design and execute a self-directed research project on a policy topic relevant to Metropolis’ business, such as AI/computer vision, urban policy, parking, or mobility
  • Produce a high-quality policy white paper by the August 31, 2026, deadline, adhering to established best practices. Fellows will receive research guidance by professional policy analysts in Metropolis’ Government Affairs team
  • Attend a mandatory virtual "Metropolis bootcamp" and a 3-part research seminar led by Metropolis’ Government Affairs team at the start of the fellowship to understand Metropolis’ vision for the future of cities and the recognition economy
  • Participate in weekly meetings to discuss project progress and receive guidance
  • Attend bi-weekly mentorship sessions led by a senior Metropolis leader on topics like corporate job landing, leadership skills, and career paths
  • Present your final research and policy paper at the Metropolis Salon and fellowship graduation reception in Fall 2026 in Metropolis’ Nashville headquarters Metropolis will reimburse travel expenses
What we're looking for
  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at a college/university in Los Angeles, Nashville, or New York City
  • Demonstrated interest in a career in public policy, government service, or government affairs
  • Interest in emerging new technologies (primarily AI) and/or urban studies
  • Strong academic performance with a 3.2 GPA or above
  • Excellent writing and research skills
  • Must be able to commit 4–6 hours per week from April 2026 to September 2026 and attend a final reception in Nashville at the end of the program

This is a non-salaried position; the provided stipend is intended solely to support educational expenses and is contingent upon the successful completion of program milestones.
