Job Responsibilities
  • Developing, testing, documenting, and maintaining Python scripts and reusable automated processes to improve metadata management workflows, reduce manual repetition, and increase efficiency and consistency.
  • Developing automated workflows that integrate with Ex Libris Alma, OCLC services, and other systems via application programming interfaces (APIs), batch processes, and file-based data exchanges.

  • Supporting the testing and implementation of new or modified automated workflows, including validating data changes and documenting APIs, data mappings, processing logic, dependencies, and technical procedures.
  • Conducting technical analysis and prototyping to identify additional opportunities for automation and to recommend technical approaches to Metadata Management staff.
Required Skills/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
  • Four (4) years of experience developing data-processing and workflow-automation solutions with Python.
  • Experience with Python for retrieving, manipulating, transforming, comparing, validating, and analyzing structured data.
  • Experience with REST APIs, including authentication, requests and responses, pagination, error handling, and processing JSON and/or XML.
  • Experience developing reliable automated processes with logging, validation, exception handling, and reporting.
  • Experience processing structured and semi-structured data formats such as XML, JSON, and CSV.
  • Experience analyzing and reconciling large or complex datasets from multiple sources.
  • Experience with version control, preferably Git, and with maintaining documented, reusable code.
  • Strong analytical, programming, troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, and technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.
Desired Skills/Experience
  • Familiarity with library bibliographic and authority metadata, including MARC 21 and MARCXML formats.
  • Experience with Python libraries for data analysis, HTTP/API interaction, XML processing, or MARC processing.
  • Experience with metadata matching, normalization, transformation, deduplication, or record reconciliation.
  • Familiarity with library systems, metadata management systems, digital repositories, or other metadata-intensive environments.
Compensation and Benefits
The anticipated salary range for this position is $80,000–$100,000 annually. The starting salary within this range will be based on relevant experience, qualifications, and skills.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
