About ALSO.

We’re ALSO, an electric mobility company originally conceived as a part of Rivian. We’re a passionate team of builders, dreamers, doers and innovators, focused on creating entirely new (not to mention, innovative and delightful) vertically integrated, small EVs designed to meet the global mobility challenges of today and tomorrow. Our mission is to inspire everyone to ride ALSO—replacing many local car, truck and SUV miles with ones on vehicles that are more affordable, more enjoyable and 10-50x more efficient.

ALSO is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern who’s excited to work in a fast-paced startup environment and eager to help design and develop the next generation of ALSO vehicles and components.

What You Will Do

  • Assist with hands-on prototyping, including 3D printing, basic machining, part finishing, and assembling early hardware for electric bikes and other small EV systems

  • Support mechanical testing and data acquisition, setting up instrumentation (accelerometers, load cells, thermocouples), running test plans, and organizing results.

  • Create and update 3D CAD models and drawings for components and sub-systems using CATIA

  • Participate in bike/vehicle tear-downs, assembly builds, and debug, working with engineers to identify root causes, propose fixes, and validate design changes.

What You Will Learn

  • You will learn how to take early-stage micro-mobility concepts from idea to prototype, working closely with experienced engineers on mechanical design, component integration, and testing.

  • You’ll gain hands-on exposure to real product-development cycles—CAD modeling, rapid iteration, DFM considerations, and validation methods—within a fast-moving startup environment.

What You Will Bring

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field with an expected graduation date in 2027.

  • Skilled in 3D CAD (CATIA preferred) and familiar with FEA and tolerance analysis.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and hands-on prototyping abilities.

  • Innovative — You love building what doesn’t yet exist.

  • Collaborative — You thrive on teamwork and cross-functional problem-solving.

  • Detail-Oriented — You blend creativity with engineering precision.

  • Passionate — You believe in ALSO’s mission to make sustainable mobility accessible and fun.

What You Will Gain

  • You will gain practical engineering experience that directly shapes next-generation micro-mobility products, along with a deeper understanding of how mechanical, electrical, and software systems converge in modern lightweight transportation design.

  • You’ll also build a portfolio of meaningful project contributions, mentorship from industry experts, and the confidence to tackle complex engineering challenges in your future career.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience designing or prototyping EV, e-bike, or consumer electronic components.

  • Exposure to GD&T, rapid prototyping methods, and design validation testing.

  • Comfortable with hands-on fabrication, testing equipment, or lab instrumentation.

  • Previous internship or project work in a startup, automotive, or mobility company.

The hourly rate for this role ranges from $30.00 to $50.00/hr, based on experience and qualifications.

Why ALSO.

We’re passionate about helping the world find a better way to get there—wherever it is you’re headed.

We’re located in the heart of Silicon Valley and have brought together a world-class team from some of the biggest brands in the technology, automotive, cycling, outdoor recreation and retail spaces.

Together we’re working hands-on to imagine, design and build an entirely new solution to a global set of transportation challenges.

Perks and Benefits

  • Robust health coverage. Excellent health, dental and vision insurance covered up to 100% by ALSO with FSA & HSA options.

  • One Medical membership and dedicated insurance advocates.

  • Rich fertility and family building benefits with Progyny.

  • Flexible time off.

  • 401(k) match.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
