Success in this role requires people who are motivated, adaptable, inquisitive, technically astute, have a high level of attention to detail, and are eager to learn new things. Our team is tight-knit, and we regularly push the boundaries of what has been done traditionally. In addition to the required experience below, our ideal candidate needs to demonstrate exceptional personal initiative, inclination to try new processes, and the ability to maintain positivity, composure and a good attitude in demanding technical situations. We need individuals who are not afraid to use their technical ability to not only identify issues but propose solutions and implement improvements.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering design in a fast-paced development environment
  • 3+ years of experience generating meaningful engineering analysis and documentation for validating designs
  • Ability to simplify complicated engineering challenges into piecemeal tasks, and develop a plan to execute to a schedule
  • Experience using parametric design software to create complex mechanical assemblies (Solidworks, Inventor, Pro/E, etc)
  • Experience performing structural and failure analysis for frames and parts using hand calculations and CAE (RISA, Ansys, CAD FEA, etc)
  • Ability to effectively manage and own projects from inception to completion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent technical and operational knowledge of mechanical systems within manufacturing environments
  • Ability to analyze and specify automation components (actuators, reducers, etc)
  • Ability to design basic electrical and control systems (industrial controls, electrical schematics, etc)
  • Experience in manufacturing (process development, tooling, component assembly, welding, machining, etc)
  • Ability to create, read and interpret complex assembly and part drawings, bills of materials, assembly procedures, and part drawings per ASME Y14.5 standards (GD&T)
  • Interface effectively with internal and external customers to ensure project success
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Experience in presenting design reviews and being able to foster an open forum for discussion
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt to a changing scope of work
  • Excellent problem-solving skills; ability to resolve issues effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to quickly understand which engineering analysis is crucial to a design's success, and which is not

Additional Requirements

  • Repetitive movement, bending or twisting, using tools typical in a shop environment (Calipers, micrometers, wrenches, etc.) or controls, exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting, and exposure to typical shop chemicals (coolant, solvents, cleaners) are generally required to perform the functions of this position.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
