We are looking for a Mechanical Designerto be responsible for the detailed modeling of components from a multidisciplinary team of engineers, integration of components into assemblies, and interfacing with manufacturing. You will also perform checking duties related to assembly and component drawings, part structures (BOMs) and item specific information for accuracy of design intent and application specific information.

Arbor’s team of world-class engineers and scientists are developing a scalable, low-cost approach to Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) based on modern rocket engine technology. BECCS is a carbon dioxide removal (CDR) approach that uses biomass to produce energy and remove CO₂ from the atmosphere and store it permanently underground, while ensuring food security, rural livelihoods, and biodiversity are not affected. Our modular technology leverages the power density of supercritical CO2 to enable compact gasification, oxy-combustion, and high-pressure turbo-expansion to convert abundant waste biomass into clean electricity, water, and high-purity CO2, capturing and sequestering all emissions from the process. Our team brings together a passion for science, technology, and global stewardship to make low-cost, high-quality carbon removal and baseload power a reality.

Responsibilities

  • Create 3D models and associated 2D drawings.
  • Create Item and Part Structure (BOM) information within ERP system.
  • Develop and maintain 3D model and 2D drawing database within Product Data Management (PDM) system.
  • Perform checking duties on assembly and component level drawings.
  • Update existing drawings to current/best manufacturing processes.
  • Work closely with manufacturing personnel and engineering to ensure design requirements are met and the best manufacturing processes are used.
  • Participate in and contribute to process improvement and design for manufacturability activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering project proposals as needed.
  • Support manufacturing personnel with evaluations of deviated components, corrective action investigations and other quality related activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or a related Engineering field.
  • 3+ years experience in 3D modeling (NX preferred)
  • Experienced with precision design and manufacturing processes
  • Able to advise manufacturing plants on proposed operational changes and anticipate the effect of change on the final part.
  • Knowledgeable in ASME GD&T.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with high pressure, turbomachinery or combustion systems.
  • Experience completing fluid flow, bolted joint, and stack calculations.
  • Proficiency in NX CAD software.
  • Experience in startup or R&D environments.

Benefits

  • Stock Options
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance (Arbor covers 90% for employees)
  • Basic life insurance fully covered
  • Health savings account (HSA) with matching
  • Flexible savings account (FSA)
  • Unlimited PTO

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
