Position Summary:

ultrainnovative – Tackle rare and dynamic challenges

Ultragenyx is preparing for the potential commercialization of a rare disease Antisense oligonucleotide therapy for the treatment of Angelman Syndrome. We are seeking a highly analytical, collaborative MBA Intern to support global launch readiness with a specific focus on Phase 3 (Ph3) datadriven scenario planning. This role will help design and execute workstreams and trigger-based plans that activate when Ph3 data become available. For example, the intern may lead pressure-testing a comprehensive plan to update the forecast, value proposition, Target Product Profile (TPP), positioning, and developing and testing core messages under different data readout scenarios (e.g., positive primary endpoint, mixed/secondary strength, subgroup effects).

Work Model:

Remote: Officially documented as working full-time from home, with travel to Ultragenyx's offices or other locations on occasion as needed.

Responsibilities:
  1. Build a scenario framework for anticipated Ph3 readouts (primary/secondary endpoint outcomes, safety profile ranges, subpopulation signals, sensitivity analyses).
  2. Work with the cross-functional team to design decision trees and activation triggers linked to each scenario, mapping implications for updating all global materials.
  3. Define insight needs (ad boards, message testing, ATUs, discrete choice/TPP trade-offs, analog analysis) triggered by each scenario.
  4. Recommend governance cadence (war room / stand-ups, escalation paths, decision logs) for the 0–90 days post-readout window.
Requirements:
  1. Current MBA student (rising 2nd year or equivalent) with a focus in Marketing, Strategy, Healthcare Management, or Finance.
  2. 2–3+ years pre-MBA experience in biopharma, life sciences consulting, healthcare investing/analytics, or related.
  3. Strong strategic thinking and structured problem solving; comfort with ambiguity and scenario-based planning.
  4. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  5. Optional Experience in neurology, CNS, or rare/orphan diseases, or early/first launch environments.

U.S. Hourly Wage Range:

  • $35.00-$45.00 per hour. The estimated hourly range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual hourly wage offered will depend on the candidate’s prior experience level.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
