Company Description

Voltus is the leading DER technology platform and virtual power plant operator connecting distributed energy resources to electricity markets, delivering less expensive, more reliable, and more sustainable electricity. Our commercial and industrial customers and DER partners generate cash by allowing Voltus to maximize the value of their flexible load, distributed generation, energy storage, energy efficiency, and electric vehicle resources in these markets.

Position Description

Voltus has an immediate opening for a Field Marketing Manager. This role will own end-to-end marketing strategy and execution for select territories across the US and Canada - from developing positioning and differentiation, to bringing that messaging to life through email campaigns, trade shows, in-person events, and webinars. Reporting directly to the Associate Director of Marketing, this role will be focused on helping Sales meet their annual, regional, and win rate goals.

This person will act as a true thought-partner to Sales and Energy Markets - not just a support function. Success in this role means becoming deeply embedded in these teams' day-to-day work: understanding their pipeline, their territory dynamics, and where deals are getting won or lost, closely enough to proactively surface more leads, help move deals across the finish line, and anticipate what Sales will need next before they have to ask.

The ideal candidate is action-oriented with a go-getter mindset, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is highly organized, communicative, and collaborative.

Responsibilities for select number of territories

Partner with Sales and Energy Markets to achieve Voltus's annual sales goals by 1) sharpening Voltus's sales messaging and 2) executing campaigns that drive enrollment.

Strategy & Insights

  • Build deep expertise in your assigned territories: DR programs, competitors, industries of focus, customers, and macro-trends

  • Partner with Sales leaders and Energy Markets to sharpen positioning and competitive differentiation

  • Analyze closed and lost deals to identify areas of opportunity and improvement

  • Maintain competitive intelligence documentation and share new insights with Sales, Energy Markets, and Product teams

Execution

  • Own and execute a marketing calendar with the help of the Associate Director of Marketing

  • Manage prospecting and upsell email campaigns to meet enrollment deadlines, plus opportunistic campaigns tied to program news, current events, and grid conditions

  • Host industry and topical webinars and events/dinners to generate new leads and nurture existing deals in pipeline

  • Identify trade shows, and execute presence at them; submit for opportunities to speak where appropriate

  • Manage region-specific industry association relationships

  • Measure and report on marketing campaign effectiveness (# of leads, $ influenced)

Sales Enablement

  • Support Energy Markets on new program launches to ensure smooth, impactful rollouts
  • Create Marketing collateral and case studies

Skills

  • Direct experience in demand generation and its various channels: digital, email, trade shows, etc.

  • Excellent writer and storyteller; distills complex technology and energy markets info into digestible concepts for prospective customers

  • Builds trusted, embedded relationships with cross-functional partners, especially Sales, Energy Markets, and Sales Productivity

  • Top-notch communication with colleagues: in person, written, and presentations

  • Knowledge of HubSpot and Salesforce is a must

  • Do-er/driver mentality — pushes projects and initiatives to completion while meeting deadlines; highly self initiated

  • Experience with Claude is a plus

Please note that at this time, we do not sponsor visas or transfers for new hires. Voltus teammates need to be authorized to work from their home location (in the US or Canada, unless otherwise indicated on the role description).

Additionally, while Voltus is an all-remote workplace, we have limitations on where employees are able to work for regulatory and security reasons. We expect that Voltans are working primarily from their home country. Working while traveling to other countries must be approved as per our Global Remote Travel Policy.

At Voltus, we are proud to be an equal opportunity employer because we recognize that a diverse organization begins with a diverse candidate pool. This means we do not tolerate discrimination of any kind and are committed to providing equal employment opportunities regardless of your gender identity, race, nationality, religion, age, sexual orientation, veteran status, disability status, or marital status.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
