About Sound Ventures

At Sound, we believe inspiration beats convention, and that the best founders aren’t just solving problems; they’re rewriting the rules.

For the last 15 years, we've invested thematically in category-defining companies at the forefront of major technology platform shifts. We seek out founders with relentless ambition and bold ideas, backing them before the rest of the world sees what's coming.

Our portfolio includes early investments in Affirm, Airbnb, Airtable, Anthropic, Duolingo, EquipmentShare, GitLab, OpenAI, SentinelOne, and Uber, among others.

Sound Ventures is led by General Partners Effie Epstein and Guy Oseary and manages $2B+ across a series of funds.

The Role

We're looking for a Marketing Manager who thrives on variety. This is a role for someone who loves solving different marketing challenges every day rather than specializing in a single function.

This isn't a role where you'll own one channel or one vertical. Instead, you'll work across nearly every aspect of marketing – helping build the Sound brand, supporting our portfolio companies, and partnering on incubation projects as new companies come to life.

One day you might be planning a founder dinner, building a presentation, or preparing for a conference. The next, you could be conducting a brand audit on a prospective investment, helping shape messaging for a portfolio company, or developing positioning for an incubated startup.

We're a lean team, so everyone wears multiple hats. The right person is excited to flex different marketing muscles – from brand, product, and event marketing to communications, storytelling, operations, and creative strategy – and is equally comfortable thinking strategically and jumping in to execute.

What You'll Do
  • Support marketing initiatives across the Sound brand, including presentations, events, digital marketing, content, and marketing operations.

  • Help plan and execute founder dinners, LP events, conferences, and other community-building experiences.

  • Support our portfolio marketing efforts by preparing for founder engagements, conducting brand and messaging audits, researching competitive landscapes, and developing strategic recommendations.

  • Partner with our incubation team on positioning, go-to-market strategy, messaging, creative development, and early marketing initiatives.

  • Create high-quality presentations and other marketing assets.

  • Coordinate with external agencies, designers, PR partners, and other creative vendors.

  • Jump into high-priority marketing projects wherever they're needed and help move them from idea to execution.

  • Continuously identify ways to improve how marketing operates across the firm and our portfolio.

Who You Are
  • 5-7 years of marketing experience preferably at a startup, agency, venture firm, or high-growth company.

  • Curious, resourceful, and excited by technology, with AI as part of your daily workflow.

  • Great communicator and storyteller.

  • Comfortable wearing many hats across different marketing disciplines.

  • High ownership, low ego, and thrives in ambiguity.

  • Open to LA-based, with some travel

Why Sound
  • Work alongside founders building category-defining companies.

  • Gain exposure to every dimension of marketing – from brand and communications to product marketing, events, strategy, and company building.

  • Join a lean, collaborative team where you'll have meaningful ownership from day one.

  • Help shape both the Sound Ventures brand and the next generation of AI companies.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
