We connect high-growth startups with experienced operators across marketing, recruiting, HR, legal, and more. These are leaders who know what great looks like and deliver real business outcomes. Experts are trusted business partners who work directly with founders to build and scale companies.

As AI transforms how work gets done, the need for experienced operators who can drive execution, exercise judgment, and own outcomes has never been greater. Dover enables these experts to plug into the most ambitious startups exactly when they’re needed most.

Dover isn’t an agency, a firm. or a consultancy. Dover is a marketplace where startups and expert operators meet, collaborate, and build lasting working relationships.

Startups come to Dover to find and partner with exceptional operators through our marketplace.

Since Dover launched the marketplace in mid-2024, it has grown to support over 300 of the strongest early-stage tech companies in the world.

About the role

As a Marketing Leader, you will serve as a trusted partner to early-stage startups, helping them define, execute, and scale their go-to-market strategy.

You will operate on Dover’s marketplace as a fractional marketing leader, working directly with founders and leadership teams to drive growth. This includes everything from positioning and messaging to demand generation, product marketing, and growth strategy.

Marketing Leaders on Dover focus on high-impact strategy and execution, while collaborating with other experts on the platform (e.g., recruiting, HR, legal, finance) to support the broader needs of their customers.

You have the flexibility to use your own tools, partner with preferred firms or vendors, or work within a company’s existing systems.

Marketing Leaders start as independent contractors on the platform and have the option to build long-term relationships with companies.

What you'll do
  • Partner with founders and leadership teams to define and execute go-to-market strategy

  • Develop positioning, messaging, and brand strategy

  • Design and run growth and demand generation programs across channels

  • Lead product marketing, including launches, customer insights, and market segmentation

  • Establish and optimize marketing infrastructure, analytics, and performance tracking

  • Identify and prioritize highest-impact growth opportunities

  • Collaborate with other Dover experts (e.g., recruiting, HR, finance) to support company building

  • Build strong, trusted relationships with founders and operators

What we're seeking
  • 5–15+ years of marketing experience, with a focus on startups or high-growth companies

  • Experience owning or leading marketing (e.g., Head of Marketing, VP Marketing, or first marketing hire)

  • Strong experience across core areas: positioning, growth, demand generation, and product marketing

  • Experience working closely with founders and executive teams

  • Track record of driving measurable growth

  • Clear, structured thinker with strong judgment and prioritization skills

  • Comfortable operating independently and managing multiple customer relationships

  • Ability to balance strategy with hands-on execution

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
