Role

We are looking for a Marketing Data Scientist Intern for a hybrid opportunity in San Jose, CA, reporting to the Director, Marketing Science and AI/ML within our Global Marketing department.

Hiring a Marketing Data Science Intern allows us to transform underutilized datasets into actionable growth strategies, such as predictive lead scoring and automated performance dashboards. This role offers a high-ROI opportunity to optimize our advertising spend and improve customer retention through advanced analytics at a minimal cost. Ultimately, it bridges the gap between raw marketing metrics and high-level strategic decisions, ensuring our department remains competitive in an increasingly data-driven market.

What you’ll do (Role Expectations)

  • Develop models to rank prospects based on their likelihood to convert, allowing the sales team to prioritize high-value targets and increase overall win rates
  • Analyze behavioral and demographic data to identify distinct customer clusters, enabling highly personalized marketing campaigns that drive higher engagement and $CLV$
  • Quantify the impact of various marketing channels on revenue to optimize budget allocation and reduce wasted ad spend
  • Design and analyze rigorous experiments for email subjects, landing pages, or ad copy to ensure creative decisions are backed by statistical significance
  • Build and maintain automated data pipelines that transform raw API data into real-time visualizations, saving the team hours of manual reporting each week

Who You Are (Success Profile)

  • You thrive in ambiguity. You're comfortable building the path as you walk it. You thrive in a dynamic environment, seeing ambiguity not as a hindrance, but as the raw material to build something meaningful.
  • You act like an owner. Your passion for the mission fuels your bias for action. You operate with integrity because you genuinely care about the outcome. You adapt to what’s needed, navigating seamlessly between high-level strategy and hands-on execution.
  • You are a problem-solver. You seek out challenges because you are energized by finding solutions, knowing that solving the hard problems delivers the biggest impact.
  • You are a high-trust collaborator. You are ambitious for the team, not just yourself. You embrace our challenge culture by giving and receiving ongoing feedback—knowing that candor delivered with clarity and respect is the truest form of teamwork and the fastest way to earn trust.
  • You are a learner. You have a true growth mindset and never stop developing yourself, actively seeking feedback to become a better partner and a stronger teammate. You love what you do and you do it with purpose.

What We’re Looking for (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, or Business Analytics
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills
  • Motivated self-starter with a passion for innovation and technology

What Will Make You Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Previous experience in a marketing internship with a technical lens
  • Proficiency in technical tools such as SQL or Python

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
