Who is Risk Labs?

Risk Labs is the foundation and core team behind UMA and Across.

We operate as one cohesive, globally distributed team building infrastructure that pushes crypto forward. UMA’s Optimistic Oracle records verifiable truth onto blockchains. Across is leading interoperability through intent-based architecture. Both are decentralized protocols governed by global communities and supported by Risk Labs Foundation.

We are remote-first, high-agency, and impact-driven.

Why This Role Exists

We are hiring a contract analyst to support UMA’s proposal monitoring system for prediction markets. This system provides additional safety against incorrect proposals going undisputed and that response times remain within defined service thresholds. You will use internal tooling to review proposals flagged as high risk, and exercise independent judgment to decide if they are correct or should escalate to UMA’s dispute resolution system. Your work directly impacts resolution accuracy, protocol trust, and user confidence.

This is not a community moderator role. It is a structured, accountable review function operating under defined response-time and quality expectations. The right candidate will grow their impact and scale in this role, as the system and its critical integrations (like Polymarket) continue to scale exponentially.

What You’ll Own1. Flagged Proposal Review (Primary Responsibility)
  • Review proposals flagged by monitoring systems during assigned coverage windows.

  • Determine whether the proposal is:

    • Correct

    • Should be escalated to UMA’s dispute resolution system

  • Review and act on flagged proposals promptly to stay within maximum response times.

  • Maintain high decision accuracy

  • Determine when to escalate high risk or ambiguous cases to senior Risk Labs staff when required

Estimated volume: 10-50 flagged proposals for review per 12 hour period.

2. Exercise Independent Judgment
  • Apply consistent reasoning across objective and subjective markets

  • Interpret ambiguous or edge-case rules under time constraints

  • Ensure decisions are defensible, repeatable, and aligned with protocol standards

3. Maintain Decision Quality
  • Clearly document rationale for approvals, disputes, and escalations

  • Maintain consistent standards across review cases

4. Improve the System
  • Identify patterns in false flags or rule ambiguity

  • Provide structured feedback on monitoring gaps

  • Suggest improvements to market rules to increase determinism and clarity

  • Contribute to ongoing refinement of Human Review processes

What Success Looks Like

This role is outcome-driven. Success is measured by:

  • SLA adherence

  • Consistent and high quality judgements on flagged proposals

  • Consistency across decisions

  • Actionable system feedback contributions

Ideal BackgroundRequired
  • Prediction Market Fluency
1+ years of active involvement with prediction markets (rules, disputes, resolutions)

  • Strong Analytical Judgment

Comfortable making neutral decisions that may impact financial outcomes

  • Reliability & Accountability
Consistent SLA adherence and independent work execution

  • Clear Written Communication
Ability to articulate concise, structured reasoning

  • Detail-Oriented & Process-Driven

Comparable Experience May Include
  • Trust & Safety / Policy Enforcement

  • Marketplace Integrity

  • Risk Operations / AML Review

  • Fact-checking or governance review

  • DAO governance participation

Schedule & Structure
  • Contract-based role

  • Remote

  • KYC required

  • Structured shifts (anticipated ~12-hour shifts, 5 days/week including weekends, final schedule TBD)

  • Alternatively, distributed coverage model (1–3 hours/day) depending on final staffing design

  • Review activity limited to defined working hours (no engineer-style on-call expectations)

  • Coordination via Slack

Compensation
  • Monthly retainer

  • Per-review incentive structure

  • Performance-based incentives tied to:

    • Volume thresholds

    • SLA adherence

    • Resolution accuracy

    • Escalation quality

Compensation range reflects experience and demonstrated judgment.
Payment available in stablecoins or fiat.

Who Thrives Here
  • Calm under ambiguity

  • Comfortable making decisions others may disagree with

  • High-agency and self-directed

  • Motivated by protecting system integrity

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
