The Role
The Manufacturing Systems Integration Engineer serves as the lead General Assembly (GA) integration resource within Advanced Vehicle Development, responsible for defining, communicating, and driving adherence to General Assembly manufacturing strategies across new vehicle programs.
This role leads the integration of manufacturing systems from program inception through post-Contract Sign Off (CSO), ensuring alignment between product design, manufacturing processes, facility strategy, capital investment, automation, and program timing. The successful candidate will solve complex manufacturing challenges, drive cross-functional issue resolution, maintain the Plan for Every Site (PFES), and provide strategic direction that delivers the safest, highest quality, and most cost-effective manufacturing solutions.
The position requires strong technical leadership, manufacturing expertise, and the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders while supporting key milestones from pre-DSI through Contract Sign Off (CSO).
What You'll Do
Manufacturing Strategy & Systems Integration
  • Lead the development, integration, and execution of General Assembly manufacturing systems for new vehicle programs from pre-DSI through CSO.
  • Develop and communicate program-specific manufacturing strategies that align product, process, timing, and investment objectives.
  • Lead the development and ongoing maintenance of the Plan for Every Site (PFES).
  • Evaluate and respond to Manufacturing Planning Studies (MPS) and Manufacturing Studies (MS) with comprehensive, data-driven recommendations.
  • Establish strategic manufacturing direction and processing concepts for assigned vehicle programs.

Program Leadership & Optimization
  • Drive manufacturing solutions that balance investment, piece cost, labor, floor space, quality, safety, and launch timing.
  • Develop lean investment targets and total cost optimization strategies across vehicle architectures.
  • Evaluate and implement advanced manufacturing technologies, automation, and vision systems where appropriate.
  • Lead program timing development and establish critical integration milestones to ensure successful execution.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, automation, controls, paint, processing, execution, installation, and launch teams to ensure aligned program decisions.
  • Partner with organizations outside General Assembly to develop integrated manufacturing solutions across the vehicle manufacturing system.
  • Remove organizational barriers and resolve escalated issues impacting program success.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between General Assembly and associated functional organizations.

Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
  • Lead root cause investigations for complex manufacturing and integration issues through resolution.
  • Utilize analytical and systems-thinking approaches to evaluate manufacturing risks and opportunities.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, efficiency, and cost reduction.
  • Apply creativity, technical expertise, and independent judgment to solve highly complex manufacturing challenges.

Stakeholder Engagement
  • Present manufacturing strategies, recommendations, risks, and program status to leadership at all levels.
  • Influence decision-making through clear communication and technical expertise.
  • Facilitate alignment among cross-functional teams, program leadership, and manufacturing stakeholders.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree
  • General Assembly manufacturing experience including process development, equipment design, integration, installation, program execution, and vehicle launch.
  • Experience working within a manufacturing plant environment
  • Demonstrated expertise in General Assembly manufacturing processes and systems.
  • Experience leading complex vehicle program integration efforts from development through launch.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing systems, automation, tooling, and assembly processes.
  • Proven ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams and drive issue resolution across multiple organizations.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to solve highly complex and ambiguous challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to effectively present technical and business recommendations to all leadership levels.
  • Experience managing multiple high-priority assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP), including process deliverables, product milestones, and organizational interfaces.
  • Ability to travel as required.

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • 8+ years of General Assembly manufacturing experience, including process development, equipment design, integration, installation, program execution, and vehicle launch.
  • Manufacturing launch experience supporting new vehicle programs.
  • Experience with advanced manufacturing technologies, automation strategies, and vision systems.
  • Knowledge of vehicle development processes and program integration activities.
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated success influencing cross-functional teams in a complex manufacturing environment.
  • Experience developing facility, process, and investment strategies for large-scale manufacturing programs.
  • Consistent demonstration of GM's core behaviors and commitment to a culture of inclusion, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

This position requires the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis. A company vehicle will be provided for this role with successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Report review.
