About UpEnergy

UpEnergy fights energy poverty and climate change by building high-quality decarbonization projects that improve lives, combining climate finance, monitoring and evaluation, engineering, and local operational insight. Our manufacturing operations produce the clean energy technologies at the core of that work, so product quality directly determines both customer impact and the integrity of the carbon credits our projects generate.

Position Summary

The Global Manufacturing Quality Manager oversees product and process quality at UpEnergy’s large-scale manufacturing facilities. This role works with in-country teams to validate manufacturing processes, build and maintain quality management systems, carry out root-cause investigations, and drive continuous improvement so that every unit shipped meets UpEnergy's performance, safety, and durability standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and maintain Production Part Approval Processes (PPAP) for all items produced at UpEnergy facilities.
  • Implement, and maintain UpEnergy facilities’ Quality Management System (QMS), aligned to ISO 9001 and applicable product standards.
  • Review incoming, in-process, and final inspection protocols, and acceptance criteria and sampling plans (e.g., AQL) for each production stage.
  • Support root-cause analysis and Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) for all manufacturing-related non-conformances, customer complaints, and field failures.
  • Ensure that calibration and maintenance checks are performed correctly and on schedule, both for production equipment and for inspection, measuring, and test equipment.
  • Monitor incoming-material quality, through material audits, and corrective action follow-through with procurement.
  • Track and report quality KPIs (first-pass yield, defect rate, cost of poor quality, customer returns) to senior leadership.
  • Train and develop the in-country quality team; build quality awareness across production staff.
  • Partner with Global Engineering and R&D on design-for-quality reviews, and product/process changes.
  • Drive continuous improvement using Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent methodologies to reduce variation and waste.
  • Ensure quality processes comply with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations, as well as UpEnergy Global standards.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a technical role, with clear evidence of independent work.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 (or equivalent QMS) and core quality tools: SPC, FMEA, 8D/root-cause analysis, control plans.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret production and quality data, and a keen eye for detail.
  • Demonstrated people-management, communication and training skills.
  • Experience in a factory or production-line environment; experience in appliance or renewables manufacturing is a plus.
  • Formal training or certification in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or a recognized quality discipline is a significant advantage.
  • Proficiency with quality/ERP software is a plus.

Location & Working Conditions

The Global Manufacturing Quality Manager should expect regular exposure to a production environment, with frequent travel to facilities around Africa and initially particular focus on Ghana.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
