Job Description

Manufacturing Quality Engineer II

Position Summary

The Manufacturing Quality Engineer (MQE) is responsible for ensuring that products meet established quality standards and regulatory requirements throughout the manufacturing process. This role drives continuous improvement, leads root‑cause investigations, supports production teams, and implements systems and controls that enhance product reliability, efficiency, and overall operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Systems & Compliance

  • Develop, maintain, and improve quality systems in compliance with ISO 9001, AS9100, or other applicable standards.
  • Create, update, and manage documentation including work instructions, control plans, PFMEAs, SOPs, and inspection procedures.
  • Support internal and external audits; lead corrective action responses and ensure timely closure.

Production Support

  • Provide real-time quality support on the manufacturing floor to resolve issues impacting production flow and product conformity.
  • Conduct first‑piece, in‑process, and final inspections as needed to support operations.
  • Partner with Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance teams to drive process capability improvements.

Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Actions

  • Lead structured problem-solving efforts using tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone, DMAIC, and 8D.
  • Identify systemic issues and implement long-term corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Track the effectiveness of corrective actions and verify improvements over time.

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Analyze process and quality metrics such as scrap, yield, defect rates, and downtime to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop quality dashboards and reports for leadership review.
  • Support PPAP, capability studies, SPC, and other data-driven quality methods.

Supplier Quality (as applicable)

  • Collaborate with suppliers on component quality issues and incoming inspection processes.
  • Participate in supplier audits and qualification activities.
  • Drive supplier corrective actions when defects occur.

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead or support Lean and Six Sigma initiatives to enhance process capability and reduce waste.
  • Participate in kaizen events focused on quality improvement and cost reduction.
  • Promote a culture of quality across cross-functional teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related field) or equivalent technical experience.
  • 2–5 years of experience in manufacturing quality, process engineering, or related role.
  • Strong understanding of quality tools and methodologies (FMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA, Root Cause Analysis).
  • Experience working with engineering drawings, GD&T, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools (Excel, Minitab, or similar).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in industries such as aerospace, automotive, medical devices, or electronics manufacturing.
  • Certifications: Six Sigma Green Belt, ASQ CQE, CQA, or related.
  • Hands-on experience with PPAP, APQP, or similar launch processes.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, process capability, and reliability engineering.

The hiring range for this position in the primary work location of Binghamton, New York is: $63,100-$86,800.The hiring range for other Bose work locations may vary.
