The Lumber Manufactory (TLM) is building the future of sustainable lumber with next-generation sawmill technology. We design and operate state-of-the-art modular sawmills that produce high-grade dimensional wood products with greater efficiency and less waste. As a member of the Design Engineering organization, you will contribute to the development and test of machine centers critical to the operation of the sawmill. You will be the key link between design and execution.
The Manufacturing and Test Engineer is responsible for ensuring comprehensive and safe assembly and test of TLM’s machine centers. You will work closely with design engineers to ensure components can be made or sourced and all elements of the design can come together according to the design intent. You will then guide operations through assembly and test while gathering critical data and performing pertinent analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
Work collaboratively with design engineers to understand design intent and translate that into assembly and test procedures.
Work collaboratively with TLM’s operations team to assemble and test machine centers.
Participate in design reviews and provide manufacturability feedback.
Design fixtures that will aid in the assembly or measurement process.
Execute, capture and organize data from machine center verification testing.
Provide component and assembly quality inspection.
Verify and direct controls integration.
Champion root cause and corrective action investigations as needed.
Provide regular updates to cross-functional partners.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering.
Able to create 2D and 3D using modeling software. Autodesk Inventor experience is a bonus.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics, including proficiency in GD&T.
Knowledgeable and experienced in working with industrial scale machinery. Sawmill experience is a bonus.
Proficient in using hand and power tools.
Experience with process control, quality, and safety.
Experience directly or working alongside Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail, accuracy and data collection.
Comfortable working at heights in PPE in a production environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Able to program and troubleshoot PLCs.
Experience designing and/or installing hydraulic systems.
