What You Will Contribute:

Are you eager to launch your tech career with a company that’s improving the planet—one drop at a time? Join Badger Meter as a Manual Software QA Tester and play a meaningful role in enhancing the quality of web and mobile applications that support smart water management across the globe.

At Badger Meter, innovation meets impact. With over a century of expertise and a deep commitment to environmental sustainability, we’re not just making great software—we’re helping communities monitor, conserve, and protect one of Earth’s most precious resources: water.

This entry-level role is focused on ensuring the quality of our web and mobile software applications through manual testing. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and communicative—someone who is eager to learn, asks thoughtful questions, and collaborates well with others. This person does not have to come in with extensive software or technical experience, we are willing to train!

You will design and execute test cases, verify functionality, identify issues, and provide valuable feedback to developers and product teams. While the focus of this role is manual testing, some basic technical skills (e.g., Python scripting, SQL queries, API tools) will be used to support test efforts. This is not an automation engineering role, but technical curiosity and hands-on troubleshooting are encouraged and supported. This is a hybrid role with a minimum three days a week in the office in Los Gatos.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Execute manual tests based on user stories, requirements, and design documentation

  • Identify, document, and verify bugs and inconsistencies using tools like Jira

  • Perform functional, regression, exploratory, and integration testing across web and mobile platforms

  • Use API testing tools (e.g., Postman, Swagger) and scripts to verify data and application behavior

  • Assist in creating and maintaining test cases, checklists, and validation documents

  • Collaborate closely with developers, product managers, and other QA team members

  • Validate defect fixes and confirm resolution without introducing new issues

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, standups, and reviews

  • Learn and follow QA best practices and team workflows

  • Support product quality efforts with clear, concise communication and follow-through

  • Wage between 72,000-96,000 annually depending on experience.

Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in an analytical or technical field (e.g., Math, Statistics, Information Systems, or similar) is preferred, but not required

  • Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving ability

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; not afraid to ask questions or challenge assumptions

  • Ability to learn quickly and work effectively in a cross-functional team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with web and/or mobile application testing is a plus

  • Familiarity with Python scripting and basic SQL is desirable

  • Understanding of software development lifecycles and Agile methodologies is helpful

  • Comfortable using tools like Jira, Confluence, and basic API testing platforms

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
