The PI team supports middle market private equity, direct lenders and corporate clients across every stage of the business and investment lifecycle. Our team partners with clients to identify, facilitate and implement action plans that drive value capture and risk mitigation. From new deal value creation, performance enhancement, and value recovery and transformation, our team provides diligent strategy and tactical support with scalable solutions that align with each individual client’s need.
The Managing Director, TES will provide subject matter expertise and engagement leadership in operational due diligence and value creation planning, post-merger integration and carve-out planning and execution, and divestiture planning and execution. This leader will work with client teams across industries to comprehensively address opportunities related to acquisitions and/or divestitures, primarily in the middle market private equity space. The role works within the PI team and is instrumental in expanding the Portage Point’s end-to-end service offerings. The Managing Director, TES should be prepared to work within a small, collaborative team environment to manage discrete work streams and drive value capture.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Portage Point team of Associates to Managing Directors to lead execution of all deliverable workflows within scope, on time and within budget, often across multiple engagements
- Work directly with clients―from board room to shop floor―to develop insights, drive buy-in, and be a catalyst for action, while overseeing post-transaction value capture
- Use a hypothesis-based approach to quickly close knowledge gaps, source key data and provide analysis
- Deliver substantiated value creation plans with quantum and speed of opportunity capture
- Support business functions to create and implement new assets, artifacts and governance
- Drive action plans to completion through interim management, project management, direct execution or execution advisory
- Leverage network and relationships to yield and maintain an active referral base of high-quality opportunities
- Lead and/or contribute to project origination and sales, including developing proposals and pitching to senior executives, private equity firms, lenders, attorneys and other related stakeholders
- Serve in interim leadership roles as required, including functional line management and CXO
- Lead development of service-line playbooks, proprietary perspective and thought leadership
- Provide professional development coaching to junior team members
- Share and manage best practices as well as lead internal trainings where required
- Lead business development efforts
- Support and lead talent acquisition and firm development efforts
- Contribute to creating a high-performing and inclusive culture
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from a top undergraduate program
- Located or willing to relocate to Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York or Philadelphia
- Invested in a team-based culture that involves in office four days per week or willing to work at client sites as needed
- 15 plus years of advisory experience across transaction types and industries, with core focus on both strategy and execution across business functions to mitigate risk, set up new processes and drive value capture
- Experience creating practice playbooks with synergy value capture, carve-out stand-up and divestiture
- Program and Project Management expertise
- Proven ability to build rapport, and influence, senior executives, middle managers, line workers, private equity firms, lenders and attorneys while delivering high-value work that exceeds client expectations
- Experience advising clients and making decisions that demonstrate expertise, synthesizing the core drivers of both the clients’ business, situational analyses and the underlying complexity of the situation to maximize value
- Personal network and relationships that yield new PI opportunities and engagements as well as ability to cross-sell complementary service offerings and expand network
- Extensive experience managing other professionals and acting in a manner that serves to motivate, develop and bring out the best in others
- Ability to work successfully in a small, collaborative team environment
- Communicates analysis effectively through Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, including high-quality messaging, structure and formatting
- Eagerness to be responsive at all times
- Proven track-record of success in high pressure, time-constrained environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including strong e-mail etiquette
