COURIER is building the largest independent, mission-driven media network in America  — and we are looking for a bold leader to help scale our National Division.

COURIER seeks a Managing Director to lead COURIER’s high-growth, high-visibility, high-impact national division, who will possess and implement a clear vision and strategy to measurably grow audience reach, engagement, brand loyalty, and monetization across the COURIER national brand and product suite.

Managing a team of producers, editorial staff, and creative professionals, this executive-level role will serve as a “mini-CEO” responsible for revenue generation, metrics reporting, high-level partnerships, and product oversight spanning national newsletters, video, podcasts, and social accounts.

The ideal candidate is a strategic builder and creative operator who thrives at the intersection of content, audience growth, and monetization, has strong instincts for both talent and market-aligned product and partnership opportunities, is obsessive about data-driven decision-making, and is excited to help scale a fast-growing media organization with national impact.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership & Vision
    • Lead big-picture product strategy for COURIER’s national newsletter, web, social video, and podcast content 
    • Direct the planning and execution of a division-wide strategic plan with division, team, and individual level KPIs
    • Establish a compelling and consistent voice and visual brand across COURIER’s national newsletter, video and podcast products, social content, and events
    • Be an external representative and ambassador of COURIER within the media, civic, and advocacy sectors; including at public events, speaking engagements, and other strategic opportunities for the company and division 
    • Sit on COURIER’s executive leadership team and report to directly to the CEO, as well as to the organization’s Board of Directors 
  • Monetization & Growth
    • Collaborate with the CRO and revenue team to develop and deploy national product, events, grassroots fundraising, and other monetization strategies
    • Ensure all national products demonstrate mission, brand, and market fit through measurable audience growth, engagement, and revenue generation 
    • Identify external partnerships, talent, and product acquisition opportunities to advance COURIER National’s growth, revenue, and impact objectives
    • Oversee the experimentation and scale of data-driven strategies to convert social audiences into email subscribers, grassroots members, and merchandise sales 
    • Assist national team leaders with setting and reporting on growth and revenue KPIs for all products and department projects
  • Operational, Team Management, and Leadership
    • Manage COURIER’s national division, including editorial, comms, marketing, and creative
    • Track industry trends and identify opportunities for cross-publishing, distribution, and other collaborations
    • Set and manage teams to annual and quarterly growth and marketing goals/KPIs for COURIER’s national content production team and product suite
    • Manage an annual 7-figure operating budget, including monthly, quarterly and annual division-wide and product-specific P+L reports 
    • Oversee COURIER national division budget and planning process
    • Drive insights and provide data intelligence to the CEO through weekly reporting to track progress to goal across all KPIs
    • Manage high-level national content, talent, platform, and business partnerships

The Ideal Candidate Will Have Some or All of the Following:

  • Experience & Expertise
    • Minimum of 8 years of experience in media or politics with at least 5 years in a high-level leadership position overseeing a marketing, content, or editorial team
    • Strong background in political or advocacy media or marketing
    • Strong knowledge of social media platforms and the changing media industry
    • Strong knowledge of best practices in social, video and audio publishing
    • Deep mission and values alignment 
  • Skills & Leadership Capabilities
    • A passion for people management and development, and an ability to navigate relationships with external talent and contractors
    • Ability to identify talent and bring creative concepts to market from ideation to execution
    • Experience hiring and leading teams to produce video, podcast, or social products that grow audiences and revenue streams 
    • Ability to effectively communicate with internal stakeholders and maintain strong relationships with external talent and contractors
    • Entrepreneurial leader who has the vision, chops and drive to bring COURIER’s National division to the next level
  • Monetization & Revenue Knowledge
    • Experience with platform monetization, revenue generation, or grassroots fundraising is required
    • Experience with ad sales for content series on YouTube or other platforms is a major plus

This position starts with a base salary of $195,000 and a generous benefits package.
