We are seeking a Managing Consultant, Noise Scientist/Engineer to lead and deliver high-impact acoustic consulting work across some of the most challenging and visible projects in North America.
In this strategic, experienced-level role, you will serve as a trusted technical authority, advisor, and mentor—helping clients navigate regulatory complexity, community concerns, and environmental impact while advancing ERM’s leadership in noise and vibration consulting. You’ll work at the intersection of science, policy, and real-world implementation, supported by ERM’s global platform and deep technical communities.

What Your Impact Is- Deliver high-quality noise assessments, modeling, and mitigation strategies that inform key client decisions
- Act as a recognized Subject Matter Expert for noise impact analysis in Environmental Assessments and Impact Statements
- Represent clients with credibility and confidence in public meetings, agency consultations, and expert witness settings
- Shape project outcomes by integrating acoustics into broader air quality, civil engineering, and sustainability initiatives
- Strengthen ERM’s technical excellence by mentoring junior staff and contributing to internal acoustic communities
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a Science discipline. Or equivalent experience.
- 4+ years of direct acoustical consulting experience
- Experience providing expert witness testimony in support of client projects
- Demonstrated experience with CadnaA
- Strong ability to organize and interpret data logically
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access)
- Proven experience writing detailed technical reports
- Strong written, verbal, analytical, and organizational skills
- Commitment to safety, including adherence to established Health & Safety protocols
- A collaborative, service-oriented mindset with initiative, versatility, and eagerness to learn and grow
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting quality, budget, and schedule expectations
- This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship
- Experience supporting projects across sectors such as data centers, renewable energy, power generation, and natural gas (FERC licensing)
- Experience conducting airborne and underwater noise assessments
- Prior involvement in NEPA and state environmental policy programs
- Comfort participating in site visits, agency meetings, and public forums
- Provide creative, fit-for-purpose acoustical technical analyses for client projects
- Support background noise surveys and noise impact modeling for airborne and underwater noise
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for noise impact analysis in Environmental Assessments and Impact Statements
- Collaborate closely with ERM’s acoustic team and Acoustical Technical Community to ensure high-quality technical review
- Conduct noise assessments for data centers, renewable energy, power generation, and natural gas projects
- Prepare scopes of work, schedules, and cost estimates for noise impact studies
- Manage multiple projects concurrently within defined scope, budget, and schedule
- Mentor and support the development of junior staff
- Conduct agency consultations and participate in site visits, agency meetings, and public meetings as needed
- Represent clients as an expert witness at public meetings
- Complete all work in accordance with ERM’s management system and quality standards
For the Managing Consultant, Noise Scientist/Engineer position, the anticipated annual base pay is $90,000–$104,175 (USD). Actual pay will depend on factors such as education, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs. In some cases, pay may fall outside this range. This role may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are not bonus eligible).
