About the role .
Our Manager, Tax Planning is a corporate tax role reporting to the Director, Tax Planning. This role will focus on pro-actively assisting with developing and implementing tax strategies, and be responsible for maintaining up to date Canadian tax attribute models for foreign subsidiaries.
What you'll be doing .
- Prepare and regularly update Canadian tax attribute estimates including the safe income calculation, ACB and surplus tracking for foreign affiliates; analyze and prepare Canadian foreign affiliate elections.
- Prepare quarterly and annual documentation to manage tax risk and support consolidated financial statement audit (such as FAPI, ACB, excluded property reviews, etc.).
- Provide support for, and in certain cases lead, strategic initiatives, such as internal reorganizations, repatriation and deployment of funds, M&A, holding structure and financing arrangements; collaborate effectively with teams in Global Finance, Corporate Development, Treasury, Legal, and other tax team members.
- Assist with establishing and documenting audit-ready file to support tax planning (e.g., internal memos and other documentation), as well as manage responses to government tax audits and related queries.
- Assist and support other members of McCain tax team for interest rate studies, credit ratings, and filing positions (e.g., Canadian tax analysis for Canadian and foreign transactions).
- Support the assessment of impacts arising from changes in global and local country tax legislation, both at the local entity and consolidated levels, and recommend suitable actions to mitigate adverse effects or capitalize on opportunities.
- Support preparation of Canadian tax returns and tax provisions, assist with Canadian and foreign tax audits, and provide support on transfer pricing matters as required.
What you'll need to be successful .
- Bachelor's degree preferably in Business, Accounting or Finance with CPA designation; Master in tax and / or CPA in-depth tax courses preferred
- Minimum 5+ years of Canadian multi-national international tax compliance and planning experience in a national accounting firm, and/or in the tax department of a multi-national Canadian corporation
- Minimum 2+ years of transactional and international tax experience, the ability to manage internal and external tax professionals, and the ability to work cross functionally
- Strong technical knowledge of Canadian income tax law and Canadian foreign affiliate rules; Working knowledge of income tax laws of other foreign jurisdictions is a significant asset
- Minimum 1+ year of relevant experience with corporate internal reorganizations, repatriations, mergers and acquisitions, financing, and other tax planning related to a Canadian multinational company.
- Strong knowledge of financial accounting and tax reporting
- Strong analytical and critical thinking capabilities
- A strong team player who is detail oriented, analytical, and very organized.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to thrive in a constantly changing, fast-paced work environment
- Strong knowledge of common computer applications (direct experience working with accounting / ERP system an asset)
