Manager, Talent Operations

Los Angeles, CA

The Role

Modern Animal is building the future of veterinary care, together - and we’re looking for an experienced manager to implement and drive the recruiting operations for the company.   We’re hiring a strategic operator to help us manage our ways of working to support clinic-level hiring as we grow.  In addition to project managing workstreams that support our clinic teams at large, this individual will be uniquely responsible for leading how we systematize and scale our work to grow our employee base in a hyper-local and authentic way.  More specifically, this role will partner closely with our Recruiting, Medicine, Operations and Marketing teams to ensure that we have designed high-ROI and decentralized processes and approaches to hire all clinic-level roles, such as Doctors, nurses, hosts, and clinic leaders.  More specifically, this individual will be responsible for:

  1. Talent Engagement + Events: In partnership with Marketing and Medicine, develop the strategy and execution to build a talent pipeline, connecting our talent strategy with business goals.  This includes building a holistic approach to talent pipeline engagement and implementing a process to manage a central calendar, task timeline (TTL), and ensure cross-functional implementation.  Events include Continuing Education events, Campus Recruiting campaigns, and Local Community events for members and talent alike.  Engagement touchpoints include email campaigns and website optimization.  Act as the operational partner for Recruiting to ensure we are targeting, messaging, and resourcing the right markets at the right time.
  2. Talent Program Management: Develop the strategy and program manage the following, inclusive of 3rd party relationships, system integrations, processes and communication:
    1. Referral Programs
    2. Relief Doctor Program
    3. Relief Nurse Program
    4. New Grad Program
  3. Recruiting Processes + Systems:
    1. Processes: developing and optimizing our 3rd party systems and internal tools and processes to create an efficient recruiting process at scale, leveraging Greenhouse, Deputy and UKG in the short term.
    2. Candidate Experience: optimize the recruiting experience to ensure an efficient, high-touch process for all candidates
  4. Employer Reputation Management: Understand the critical levers and channels for building and maintaining a strong employer brand; operationalize how Modern Animal shows up to key audiences. Build the system/process for ongoing measurement, and create and execute plans to improve employer reputation across channels
  5. Talent Analytics and Reporting: Build and maintain critical reporting to provide visibility into talent funnel performance across regions, clinics, and doctor profiles. Use data to drive action across the company —developing KPIs, conversion targets, and feedback loops that align recruiting execution with hiring urgency.
    1. Work with recruiters and Finance to make market and region-level recommendations on compensation; conduct internal and external surveys/interviews to understand both qualitative and quantitative drivers for different talent pools
    2. Work with Operations to systemically understand talent risk level and connect the dots to hiring pipeline
  6. Budget Optimization: Own the budget for and optimize the return on investment for talent marketing and other recruiting costs that support building the employee pipeline.

Why you’d be a great fit:

  • Minimum 5 years in an operations, recruiting or sales role with KPI ownership
  • Project management experience to ensure projects are designed, implemented, and evaluated effectively
  • Able to pull insights from multiple sources (ATS, CRM, campaign tools, dashboards) and build clear, actionable reporting that highlights funnel trends, gaps, and performance by clinic, role, or market; fluent in tools like Looker, Tableau, or similar BI platforms.
  • Bonus: experience working in multi-site, service-based businesses (e.g. healthcare, education, retail), or recruiting for hard-to-fill or geographically dispersed roles
  • Experience with Greenhouse, Slack and Google Suite a plus

What you can expect from us:

  • Excellent medical, vision, & dental coverage with various options to choose from
  • 401k savings plan with a company match
  • Flexible time off & paid parental leave
  • Free membership to Modern Animal for your pets and discounts on extra services
  • A collaborative team who has your back and will welcome you as part of our pack
  • The compensation for this position is $86,000 to $115,000

We believe an equitable and inclusive work environment and a diverse, empowered team are key to achieving our mission. We’re not looking for candidates who are “culture fits.” We’re looking for candidates who can expand our culture and challenge business as usual. We strive to foster an environment where all staff can bring their whole selves to work, by their own definition, and we strive to provide all candidates with an equitable and accessible recruitment process.

We provide equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, veteran status, or genetics.

In addition to federal law requirements, we comply with applicable state and local laws governing nondiscrimination in employment in every location in which the company has facilities.

This policy applies to all terms and conditions of employment, including recruiting, hiring, placement, promotion, termination, layoff, recall, transfer, leaves of absence, compensation and training.

If we can offer accommodations for you in the recruitment process, or if you have feedback on how to make our recruiting more equitable or accessible, please let us know!

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
