Job Summary:
The Manager - Mechanical Systems Engineering plays a crucial role in FORTNA, responsible for overseeing and managing the mechanical estimating process for various projects. They lead a team of designers and estimators and collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure accurate and competitive project bids. This position will oversee the design and estimating for new systems, as well as modifications to existing systems.
Responsibilities:
Team Management:
- Lead and supervise a team of designers and estimators, providing guidance, training, and support.
- Assign tasks and ensure the team meets project deadlines.
- Foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
Estimation Process:
- Develop and implement effective design and estimation procedures and methodologies.
- Review project plans, specifications, and related documents to assess requirements.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather accurate information for estimates.
- Analyze project scope and identify potential risks, challenges, and opportunities.
- Conduct quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, and labor assessments for systems.
- Utilize appropriate software tools for estimating and pricing.
Cost Analysis and Budgeting:
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for mechanical components of construction projects.
- Evaluate material and equipment costs, subcontractor bids, and labor requirements.
- Perform value engineering analysis to optimize costs without compromising quality.
- Create and maintain a database of historical cost data to facilitate future estimations.
- Collaborate with procurement and finance teams to ensure accurate budgeting.
Proposal and Bid Preparation:
- Prepare comprehensive and competitive bid proposals, ensuring adherence to project requirements.
- Review and analyze bid documents, contract terms, and conditions.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and quotes.
- Present estimates and proposals to clients, highlighting key features, cost breakdowns, and value-added services.
Relationship Management:
- Collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors to understand project goals and requirements.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and negotiations with stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and availability of resources.
- Provide timely and accurate responses to client inquiries and requests for information.
Industry Knowledge and Continuous Improvement:
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and emerging technologies.
- Identify process improvements and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy in the estimation process.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- AutoCAD experience with understanding of System Design.
- Knowledgeable on electrical systems, materials, labor costs, and industry standards
- Strong analytical, organizational and leadership skills
- Project and Project Management experience
- Ability to work in Various Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
Education and Experience:
- B.S. Degree in Engineering or similar field of study
- 4+ years of Electrical estimating and/or sales experience, material handling industry preferred.
- 3+ years in a leadership role
Other Qualifications Desired:
- Knowledge of induction motors, programmable logic controllers and industrial Networks.
- Knowledge of Mechanical Installation.
- Proficiency using estimation software (Excel) and tools
Physical Requirements:
- General office environment with normal sitting, standing and minimal, nominal lifting.
- PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) may be required at customer locations.
- Some climbing may be required at customer locations.
Other Relevant Information:
- Valid Driver’s License Required.
- Valid Passport.
Travel Requirements:
- Travel required, up to 10%.
