Why this role exists

We’re growing! You will report into the Head of Finance and will be the first Accounting hire for the organization. You will help set the course for our Accounting function including the improvement of our billing process and the implementation of our next ERP system. This is a rare chance to step into a blank-canvas role: you won't be inheriting someone else's processes, you'll be designing them.

If you've ever wanted the autonomy to build a finance org the way it should be built, this is it.

What you’ll own

Day-to-Day Operations

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process

  • Prepare and review accruals, account reconciliations, and flux analysis

  • Manage AP, vendor contracts, expense reimbursements, and treasury

  • Coordinate external tax advisors for federal and state filings

Billing & Revenue (Your Biggest Priority)

  • Own and improve our billing process end-to-end — we're usage-based, and automation here is a key unlock for the business

  • Drive ASC 606 revenue recognition for a consumption model

  • Reduce manual touchpoints; build something that scales

Upleveling the Accounting Organization

  • Lead the evaluation and implementation of our next ERP (Campfire, Rillet, or NetSuite — your call to recommend)

  • Build a chart of accounts that supports department-level P&L reporting across R&D, S&M, and G&A — the foundation for budget vs. actual and external benchmarking

  • Develop our procurement process from the ground up

  • Hire out our accounting function. We have plans in place for future hires, but we need you aboard!

  • Prepare us for our first external audit

Where we are at today

The systems we utilize today are:

  • ERP: Quickbooks

  • Billing: Quickbooks (exploring Metronome/Orb)

  • Banking, AP, and Expense Management: Ramp, Brex

  • T&E: Navan

  • Payroll and HRIS: Rippling

  • Ai: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini

  • You will be using a Mac, leave your Big 4 PC at the door

  • We have two entities (US and India) with an outside firm managing India. We also utilize a US based firm for current US bookkeeping.

Who You Are

Your Career Background

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience including 3+ years in Big 4 and 2+ years in private tech

  • CPA strongly preferred (inactive is fine)

  • Deep command of US GAAP and ASC 606

  • You've owned usage-based billing before — not just supported it, owned it

  • You've led or been a key player in an ERP implementation

  • You've prepped a company for its first external audit

  • You've used AI tooling to automate accounting workflows — and you're excited to do more of it

Mindset

  • In-office daily in Dogpatch SF — this is a present, collaborative role. This is non-negotiable

  • Builder mentality: you get energy from creating systems, not just running them

  • AI-first: we're intentionally lean on headcount and heavy on tooling — you embrace that

  • Calm under pressure: when things are on fire, you're the one who doesn't add smoke

  • Low ego, high ownership: you don't need credit, you need things to get done

  • Strong communicator: direct, willing to push back, equally willing to compromise

What the first 90 days look like

First 30 Days — Learn & Assess: Absorb our current processes, understand the business model, and build relationships with our strategic partners and external advisors.

Perks & Benefits
  • Competitive base + meaningful equity

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
