SUMMARY

The copy voice of the social-first content team. Working closely with your creative counterpart, you write all copy for the platform-native content engine—social captions, hooks, scripts, paid social copy, email and CRM, and digital content. You think natively in platform: you understand how copy functions differently on TikTok versus Instagram versus email, and write for each context with fluency and intentionality. You are a power user of AI writing tools—using them to multiply their output, test messaging, and generate options at speed. This role sits in the creative team, and reports to the head of the copy team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Social captions—written natively for each platform, not adapted from campaign copy
  • Hooks and on-screen copy for TikTok and Reels content—writes copy that works in video, not just alongside it
  • Paid social copy—headlines, body copy, and CTAs for paid media across all social platforms
  • Email and CRM copy—campaign emails, SMS, and automated flows; generates variants and subject line options at volume
  • Content strategy input—brings a copy and messaging POV into content planning conversations with the Social Art Director
  • AI writing workflows—owns and develops AI copy tools for the content team; builds prompts, trains outputs to brand voice, generates variants at speed
  • Platform copy intelligence—tracks what copy approaches, hooks, and formats are working on each platform and brings that intelligence into the creative process
  • Ability to leverage SEO/GEO insights and keywords to ensure maximum discoverability of content, while still adhering to the brand voice across channels

REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years of copywriting experience with a demonstrable social-first portfolio
  • Has written natively for social—understands the difference between a caption and a campaign headline
  • Already fluent in AI writing tools—doesn't need to be trained on the concept
  • Understands how copy performs differently across TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube and email
  • Strong instinct for hooks—can write an opening line that stops a scroll
  • Some content strategy background is a plus—can think about what to say, not just how to say it
  • Beauty experience a plus

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
