At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next.

The Opportunity

Entertainment is entering its next era of innovation. Netflix has published a great deal about the role innovation plays in shaping the way we enjoy the entertainment we love. Our Tech Blog, research papers, and a steady run of speaking engagements put that work in public view every year, and our engineering audience finds it. The audience we haven't reached yet feels the difference in using Netflix without seeing what produced it: designers, founders, reporters, and the wider group of people shaping where technology and culture intersect.

This opportunity calls for an editor with unusual range. You can read a technical paper on NeurIPS and come out with a headline, and you carry that incredible instinct to everything else you take in: an hour at vowels research library, an afternoon at magCulture, a thread on r/singularity where people are debating the next decade in real time. You can write about technology and are curious about it, without sounding out of touch with who the technology is for.

The job is putting that judgment to work at scale. The role runs an editorial operation: an editorial calendar our teams plan around, a review process an engineer will trust with their first paper, resilient standards, and a vision for how these stories reach people through conventional and unconventional channels.

We're hiring for judgment about what we publish, when, in what form, and who it should reach. Where you built that judgment is industry agnostic. If your background doesn't map exactly to the description below, we encourage you to apply anyway.

The Role

The Manager, Product & Technology Editorial will lead the editorial strategy and day-to-day execution across our owned technology channels, including our Tech Blog. You will drive the editorial standards and cadence for our Tech Blog, own the operational process for reviewing published papers and external speaking engagements, and partner closely with our Social and Editorial Communications leads to amplify our product and technology narratives beyond traditional press for launches.

You will partner closely with engineers and researchers publishing technical work and the broader Product & Technology Communications team to ensure our external channels consistently reflect a clear, elevated, and distinctly Netflix point of view on technology and innovation.

The role is based in our Los Angeles or New York office, with the potential to be remote for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

Tasks are strategic, timely, and varied. They include but are not limited to:

Editorial

  • Set and maintain a consistent editorial approach across our published research papers, Tech Blog articles and other critical outputs.

  • Raise the editorial bar on our owned channels — sharpening voice, standards, and structure so content reads as strategic and intentional rather than purely technical.

Operations

  • Own and maintain the editorial calendar, and the publishing and speaking review process, from intake through publication.

  • Identify and implement more efficient workflows for editorial review and publishing, partnering with legal, policy, and technical teams as needed.

  • Maintain consistent, repeatable processes so contributors across the org have a predictable, well-supported path to publish or speak externally.

Collaboration

  • Build and manage a close partnership with Social and Editorial Communications to develop creative approaches that extend our storytelling beyond traditional press — identifying new formats and channels for amplification.

  • Act as the connective tissue between technical contributors and our broader communications and marketing teams.

Innovation

  • Elevate our Tech Blog by developing a sharper eye for which technical work is genuinely story-worthy — surfacing and pitching the strongest candidates for elevation outside of the Tech Blog.

  • Own and execute the development of a new, ownable destination for our innovation narrative beyond existing channels.

  • Help shape new formats — digital and physical — that celebrate the technical excellence of our teams’ work to a broader audience in a creative, story-forward way that challenges conventions.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant editorial, publishing, or communications operations experience across tech, innovation, entertainment, or related industries.

  • Deep fluency in sub-cultures, emerging new media platforms and well-read — you’re interested in everything from analog to digitally-native media; chronically online in the best way.

  • SEO and/or GEO fluency.

  • First principles, systems thinking; equal parts editorial instinct and operational rigor.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications, with strong editorial judgment for tone, structure, and voice.

  • Demonstrated operational excellence — adept at managing editorial calendars, review pipelines, and cross-functional coordination on tight timelines.

  • High judgment with the ability to make principled decisions, even amid ambiguity.

  • A strong point of view and the ability to effectively socialize and influence across cross-functional teams and leaders.

  • A collaborative, team-player mindset with comfort working independently and proactively.

  • A strong bias for action, curiosity, and an instinct for connecting dots across culture, innovation, and business priorities.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
