Millennium Space Systems, a part of Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS), is a fast, agile small satellite company focused on national security space. Our missions have direct impact to global security, like missile warning and Earth observation.
Our team is curious, bold and innovative. We take risks, innovate and explore new techniques and technologies. We influence change because we challenge the status quo. And when we watch our satellites launch, we know each one of us made it happen.
Job Summary:
As the Manager of Manufacturing Product Owners, you will lead a cross-functional team responsible for delivering high-quality hardware subsystems to meet program requirements on schedule and within budget. This role demands strong leadership across engineering, production, and operations to ensure subsystem delivery, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and drive initiatives that enable scalable, high-rate production.
You will oversee technical execution, capacity planning, and resource alignment to meet the demands of current and future programs. Additionally, you'll work closely with internal stakeholders to identify and resolve bottlenecks, mature product designs, and increase manufacturability and throughput across the product lifecycle.
This position's internal job code is Production Engineering Manager. Our team is currently hiring for Level K.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Lead the day-to-day execution of subsystem deliverables across multiple programs, ensuring alignment with cost, schedule, and technical performance targets
  • Partner with Program Management (including MPMs) to define priorities, understand hardware demand, and align resources to meet key milestones
  • Manage and mentor a team of project engineers responsible for cost and labor estimation, scope planning, risk analysis, EACs, and technical execution
  • Develop and maintain a product roadmap that supports long-term business goals, in collaboration with Engineering and Strategy teams
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across product design, engineering workflows, and production operations to improve quality, reduce cycle time, and enable scalability
  • Lead efforts to enhance manufacturing readiness and increase production throughput, including capacity and capabilities planning to support high-rate manufacturing
  • Collaborate with Production Scheduling to ensure shared resources and production lines are aligned to program requirements
  • Use Earned Value Management (EVM), LREs, and key metrics to track performance, manage variances, and drive corrective actions
  • Act as the Control Account Manager (CAM) for assigned accounts, serving as the primary technical and cost performance authority
  • Monitor and report on Technical Performance Metrics (TPMs), identify risks and issues early, and implement mitigation strategies to preserve schedule and quality
  • Oversee closure of subsystem DRs (Discrepancy Reports) in coordination with engineering to avoid production delays.
  • Support design-for-manufacturing efforts to improve part reliability, testability, and repeatability at high production rates.
  • Lead structured retrospectives and implement process improvements based on lessons learned, quality findings, and stakeholder feedback
  • Interface regularly with executive leadership, customers, and program stakeholders to provide status updates and drive resolution of key issues

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
