Manager, Manufacturing Engineer

PURPOSE
Based at our campus in Los Angeles, Manager, Manufacturing Engineer will be accountable to develop the team and processes and capabilities that transfer our component and structural designs into working hardware. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated leader who can create a team, systems, and culture that are agile and relevant in our evolving matrix environment.
THE ROLE
- Be an expert in machine, fabrication, welding and tooling that will lead appropriate decisions for cost and schedule at both R&D and higher volume production
- Develop specialized processes and IP required to scale to global levels
- Build and lead a team of Manufacturing Engineer specialists
- Deliver professional and timely DFM input to design teams
- Produce Manufacturing sign-off on controlled drawings and plans
- Develop Manufacturing BOMs and build instructions
- Design fabrication tooling
- Lead the development of robust manufacturing workflow processes in our R&D environment
- Support development of workflow, document control and communication processes for global scale
- Plan internal capability expansion, facilities and capital expense
- Own the relationship between our in-house fabrication capabilities and the design teams
- Develop and manage relationships with outside vendor shops in association with design, procurement and quality teams
- Create a team that is highly approachable, responsible and collaborative
- Successfully carry out responsibilities in a dynamic and growing start-up environment
CANDIDATE PROFILE
- Well versed in machine and fab operations including manual and NC machining, waterjet, welding, joining and inspection
- Very knowledgeable of large-scale weldment fabrication and machining
- Familiar with field machining operations and laser tracker work
- Proficient machinist and CAD designer with ability to design tools
- Understand GD&T, metrology, and inspection tools and techniques
- Ability for regular travel to Las Vegas and occasional travel to global sites
- 12 years of applicable experience
- 8 years direct management of employees
- Proven experience in ISO9001 and AS9100C or similar program
- Excellent communicator and collaborator
- Engineering degree. Advanced engineering or management degree preferred
- Strong focus on team building and employee development
- Experience in a global manufacturing environment
