Technical Program Managers (TPMs) are responsible for our most complex projects that span technical teams, domains, and products at Datadog. As one of the managers in the Technical Program Management team, you will partner with our Engineering leaders to deliver on a portfolio of programs. You will use your leadership skills and program management experience to grow and mentor a team of TPMs and oversee the breadth of programs led by your team. You’ll be part of the leadership team and help roll out standards and practices that best fit the organization. The TPM team focuses on maintaining lightweight processes and continual improvements while optimizing and accelerating execution. Clear communication, metrics, and visibility are building blocks of our values.

At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships that it builds, the creativity it brings to the table, and the collaboration of being together. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our employees can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage the deliverables of a small team of TPMs who work on related aspects of Datadog’s infrastructure
  • Help develop your team members skills and abilities and support them in their career goals
  • Take a hands on approach to the work your team delivers–stepping in to lead a project or setting up a process to help move things forward as necessary–and ensure high quality deliverables and implementation of TPM best practices across the team
  • Understand Datadog technology and the challenges our engineering teams face, and establish credibility and rapport with technical peers
  • Communicate with and present your team’s work to leadership and other partners

Who You Are:

  • 5+ years experience as a Technical Program Manager, working on large-scale, cross-organizational projects.
  • You have experience managing a small team of 2+ TPMs. You are able to coach team members both in their careers and in their delivery; establish norms and best practices in a dynamic environment without advocating for dogmatic practices.
  • You have a data driven approach to program management; building tools (workflows, custom work intake processes, estimation models), and collecting and leveraging data.
  • You can step back and see the bigger picture of the various programs in your area and help represent your portfolio to stakeholders.
  • You have strong technical skills: can navigate technical conversations regarding cloud-based infrastructure and thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle.
  • Experienced building and fostering strong working relationships; negotiating, driving decisions and working collaboratively across the organization to get buy-in.
  • Strong communicator, both written and verbal; able to be responsible for shaping messages and editing team comms.
  • Have solid business acumen; ability to assess problems and implement suitable solutions keeping technology and customers in perspective.

Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you’re passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.

Benefits and Growth:

  • New hire stock equity (RSUs) and employee stock purchase plan (ESPP)
  • Continuous professional development, product training, and career pathing
  • Intradepartmental mentor and buddy program for in-house networking
  • An inclusive company culture, ability to join our Community Guilds (Datadog employee resource groups)
  • Access to Inclusion Talks, our internal panel discussions
  • Free, global mental health benefits for employees and dependents age 6+
  • Competitive global benefits

Benefits and Growth listed above may vary based on the country of your employment and the nature of your employment with Datadog.

Datadog offers a competitive salary and equity package, and may include variable compensation. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition, Datadog offers a wide range of best in class, comprehensive and inclusive employee benefits for this role including healthcare, dental, parental planning, and mental health benefits, a 401(k) plan and match, paid time off, fitness reimbursements, and a discounted employee stock purchase plan.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
