About Otto Aviation

OTTO is developing the world’s first fifth-generation business jet, designed for sustainability through the innovative use of advanced super-laminar aerodynamics and high-precision, net-shaped composites. Flight tests of our technology demonstrator validate a dramatic reduction in fuel burn and allow a sizeable improvement in cabin comfort. Otto Aviation is designing world-class aircraft from first principles physics and delivering ground-breaking aircraft and economic performance.

About the Role

Otto Aviation is currently seeking a highly experienced finance professional to join our team as the Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A). As a new role within the organization, this is an exciting opportunity for a selected candidate to be a part of a world-class FP&A team. The Manager of FP&A is a role responsible for working closely with the VP of FP&A to oversee the financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis activities of the organization. This role involves working closely with executive management, department heads, and other key stakeholders to provide strategic financial insights that drive informed decision-making and support the achievement of the company's financial objectives.

What You’ll Do

  • Budget Management: Lead the annual budgeting process, collaborating with engineering, operations, and R&D teams to allocate resources efficiently. Track variances, provide monthly/quarterly reports, and recommend adjustments to optimize burn rate and extend runway
  • Performance Analysis: Conduct in-depth KPI analysis (e.g., cost per unit, R&D ROI, cash flow metrics) and deliver actionable insights to leadership. Use data to support decision-making on investments in new technologies or partnerships.
  • Fundraising Support: Assist in preparing financial materials for investor pitches, due diligence, and funding rounds (e.g., Series B/C). Model pro forma financials, including sources and uses statements, and evaluate funding scenarios.
  • Cost Control & Compliance: Monitor aerospace-specific costs (e.g., regulatory compliance, PDPs for aircraft components, or WIP inventory) and ensure adherence to U.S. GAAP/IFRS standards. Identify cost-saving opportunities in a lean startup environment.
  • Reporting & Dashboards: Build and automate financial dashboards (e.g., using Excel, Tableau, or BI tools) for real-time visibility into metrics like EBITDA, FCF, and capex. Prepare executive summaries and board reports.
  • Strategic Projects: Support M&A evaluations, grant applications (e.g., NASA/SBIR programs), or partnerships by providing financial due diligence and valuation analysis.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor junior analysts and collaborate cross-functionally with teams in engineering, procurement, and sales to align financial goals with operational realities.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
