Job Description
NBCU is looking for a Manager, DevOps Monitoring and Control as part of NBCU's Distribution Engineering organization. This role will focus on development, configuration & workflow orchestration via DevOps principles. The ideal candidate will have a background in the media industry with a strong understanding of live linear audio/video monitoring. The role involves working in both on-prem and cloud environments and stresses the need for detailed documentation. The ideal candidate will have an appetite to learn new tools, possess a combination of technical skills along with communication and soft skills. The Manager, DevOps Monitoring & Control will work in JIRA for Agile & GitHub for code management. The role involves working closely with developers, product owners, scrum masters, business stakeholders and senior leadership across multiple organizations.
Job Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team dedicated to developing & configuring tools to monitor linear/VOD media workflows
  • Lead a major cloud migration project to enhance NBCU's linear media monitoring capabilities
  • Develop, customize and enhance monitoring/alerting tools for "on-air" environments
  • Orchestrate infrastructure & software deployments via CI/CD
  • Aggregate logs into Splunk/Grafana to build customized dashboards for Operations / Engineering
  • Create new metrics and identify monitoring deliverables to improve site reliability
  • Develop proof of concept deployments for evaluation of products and architectures
  • Create, maintain, and share technical documentation
  • Partner with other DevOps teams within the Distribution Engineering organization to help architect, configure, monitor, and support their services.
  • Report out to executive leadership on project progress/updates
  • Provide recommendations, best practices, and process improvements.


Qualifications
Basic Requirements:

  • Experience in the media industry specifically with monitoring and control system tools
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience using industry standard DevOps tools (e.g., Git, Bamboo, Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
  • 4+ years of proven hands-on-keyboard experience with at least two coding languages (e.g., YML, Bash, Python, Perl, Ruby, or JavaScript)
  • Hands-on experience using IaaC tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Chef, Puppet)
  • Strong understanding of public cloud technologies and cloud infrastructure
  • Experience with AWS CloudWatch & AWS Kinesis
  • Experience with networking and cloud-based network environments
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD orchestration and Release Management processes
  • Experience with containerization & Kubernetes
  • Experience with DevSecOps principles
  • Knowledgeable in both Splunk & Grafana data aggregation and dashboard creation
  • Detail-oriented with excellent analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills
  • Passion for project process and project tracking using Agile/JIRA


Desired Characteristics:

  • Bachelor's / Master's degree in Computer Science or related degree
  • Vocal leader who can clearly articulate complex architectures, projects and technologies
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced agile environment. Requirements change quickly and our team needs to adapt and achieve aggressive goals.
  • Experience with exception based monitoring
  • Experience with streaming technologies


Additional Requirements: This is a fully remote position but will require periodic travel.
