THE PURPOSE:

The Manager of Control Compute will be part of the Embedded Compute Team within the Software Engineering Division. The team works with other teams to specify, develop and maintain the hardware electronic control units for the control systems of Hyperloop - for safety critical, real-time and other uses.

Ultimately, we will design reliable, scalable, real-time (or near-real time) applications that make Hyperloop One a reality. We are seeking candidates with various levels of experience to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals at our Los Angeles facility. 

THE ROLE:

• Develop, implement, and optimize the embedded hardware /compute development and maintence processes.
• Deliver multiple safety critical ECUs, with a variety of CPU / FPGA hardware to meet strict environmental specifications.
• Work closely with Architecture and Software teams to ensure compatibility, certification standards, and safety standards are observed.
• Work with third party collaboration partners to use and set industry standards.
• Lead the creation of network design specifications, and head up the repository for all embedded control compute related knowledge.
• Lead, grow, and maintain a team of hardware compute engineers.
• Keep a customer focused mindset, prioritizing developer productivity and application uptime.
• Champion processes and procedures across the organization.
• Communicate, present, and defend opinions concerning development descisions in a productive and diplomatic fashion.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

• Experience in a management role and/or technical project management.
• Understanding of SOLID coding principles and software life-cycles.
• Understanding of performance tools, metrics and benchmarks.
• Proven project experience in managing safety critical compute hardware designs and development.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• BS or MS Degree in Computer Science or equivalent field.
• Experience with agile methodologies.
• Experience with ARM, x86 and a variety of FPGAs.
• Experience in packaging, EMC, and connector requirements.
• Experience utilizing a range of third party suppliers to outsource all elements of hardware development.
• Experience managing hardware compute developments or similar.
• Solid industry experience building and maintaining embedded platforms.
