About The Role
We are seeking individuals to join as Manager, Commercial Analytics to support commercial optimization and portfolio management of esVolta’s battery storage portfolio (with a focus in CAISO), while also supporting broader commercial analytics and reporting across the full portfolio.

This role reports to the lead CAISO Portfolio Manager and partners closely with internal teams and external stakeholders. The Manager will be a key contributor to the optimization of our CAISO fleet of assets, own recurring forecasting and performance reporting, synthesize vendor and third-party inputs into clear takeaways, and build AI-enabled workflows and reusable tooling (including Custom GPTs) that improve speed, quality, and repeatability across the organization.
Mission
Deliver decision-ready analytics and forecasting for Commercial Operations, with a CAISO focus, while building scalable processes and AI-enabled tools that materially improve execution.
What Success Looks Like in the First 12 Months
  • Vendor reporting cadence: Establish a consistent vendor/third-party intake and dissemination cadence that produces concise takeaways and action items focused on revenue and risk drivers.
  • Monthly forecast updates: Own monthly revenue forecast updates end-to-end, including assumptions, variance narratives, and clean outputs ready to circulate with minimal rework.
  • Quarterly forecast reports: Streamline and automate the quarterly revenue forecast reporting process to improve turnaround time, consistency, and traceability.
  • CAISO optimization independence: Independently support day-to-day CAISO optimization and performance monitoring, consistently meeting or exceeding internal revenue capture expectations.
  • Long-term price forecasting: Develop a scalable long-term hourly price forecast approach for key ISOs, with priority coverage of CAISO, ERCOT and SPP.
  • Structured transaction analytics: Produce decision-grade commercial analytics that support evaluation and origination of structured transactions across CAISO, ERCOT and SPP.
  • Portfolio performance reporting: Improve performance tracking and reporting so leadership updates can be produced quickly with clear narratives, key metrics, and executive-ready visuals.
  • AI leverage at scale: Stand up multiple Custom GPTs plus broader workflow automation/reusable tooling that materially reduces cycle time on recurring research, analysis, reporting, and drafting.
  • Documentation and standards: Publish clear SOPs for core analytics/reporting workflows and maintain an organized repository so outputs are easy to find, reuse, and audit.
  • Stakeholder representation and communications: Reliably and confidently represent the team with senior internal and external stakeholders, owning data quality and ensuring communications align with the broader team and company narrative.

Vendor and third-party reporting synthesis
  • Review vendor and third-party reports and distribute succinct takeaways focused on decision-relevant metrics.
  • Drive consistency in how inputs are reviewed, summarized, archived, and acted upon.

Cross-functional and external interface
  • Partner with internal teams including Asset Management, Performance Engineering, Finance, Legal, Development, Origination and IT.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
