Job Description:
What You'll Do
Our Discover Fraud and Risk organization is comprised of autonomous product teams responsible for designing, developing, and supporting cloud-based and on-prem solutions that meet network capabilities for Risk, Investigation and Transaction Monitoring Business needs. Looking for an Engineering Manager responsible for the technical development of software engineers within our Risk development area, using your technical expertise to drive vision into action and results.
If you are an expert in modern engineering practices like Cloud engineering and User interfaces, Design, Automation, Micro services, CI/CD, have a passion for solving complex problems and skilled at building engineering skills, apply today. You will be responsible for the technical development and quality delivery of software engineering solutions. You will lead a team of engineers within a Discover application development area while using your technical expertise to drive vision into action and results. You will develop and coach teams to be able to identify, manage, and escalate risk, and effectively manages risk within the teams you oversee.
How You'll Do It
  • Mentor and lead a staff of engineers in both technical and soft skills to craft a team of highly technically competent, consistent, thoughtful, and customer-centric technology experts. This includes ensuring the group is adhering to principles of engineering excellence within their technical domain, applying consistency of technical execution, sharing common practices and challenges within the team and fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning within the team.
  • Leads and utilizes highly technical skills to contribute as an engineer within a product team designing, developing code, and maintaining quality technology solutions for a product or set of products including developing own subject matter expertise. Demonstrated experience in multiple software languages, modern software methods, CI/CD, cloud, and automated testing.
  • Hire, retain and lead high-functioning, diverse group of engineering professionals, establishing clear objectives and key results, developing consistent set of practices and process across the team and driving towards resolution of challenging problems. This includes all performance management aspects of leading the engineers including acquiring and providing 360 feedback and administering reviews. Manages software ownership and development from initial concept through continuous improvement.
  • Lead and shape the technical vision within their product team and be an essential member of leadership team including acting as a leader in the Discover engineering community affecting and advancing the architecture across the company and ensuring adherence to all regulatory, compliance and audit requirements. This includes defining how technical work should be done, selecting appropriate tools, defining technology, quality, experience and implementation standards and practices within own technical domain.
  • Mentor staff of engineers in both technical and soft skills to craft a team of highly technically competent, consistent, thoughtful and customer-centric technology experts. This includes ensuring the group is adhering to principles of engineering excellence within their technical domain, applying consistency of technical execution, sharing common practices and challenges within the team and fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning within the team.
  • Work with key stakeholders to efficiently and effectively allocate team members to product teams to meet business and Product area objectives.
  • Engage with internal and external communities of technical practice to share experiences, contribute knowledge, learn and advocate for the Discover Technology brand. Promotes team innovation and collaboration of ideas across teams.
  • Contribute as an engineer within a product team designing, developing, and maintaining quality technology solutions for a product or set of products.

Minimum Requirements
At a minimum, here's what we need from you:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or related
  • 6+ years of experience with information technology, software engineering, or related.

Preferred Requirements
If we had our say, we'd also look for:
  • Knowledge in a software development role within Payments Fraud or similar domain
  • Experience in People Leadership
  • Experience in Distributed platforms, Java/J2ee technologies, Spring, Rest API, ORM and Business Process Automation.
  • Experience with DevOps practices, tools, and knowledge on Trident Pipeline to efficiently guide and resolve issues for product development teams.
  • Skillful in Angular, React and other Java script technologies to drive UI and Portal development and solutions.
  • Knowledge on Cloud native applications, OCP Platform, Argo Workflows, AWS to effectively manage the technical landscape and roadmap for Fraud products.
  • Knowledge of Database technologies (Relational and NoSQL).
  • Support technical initiatives, provide inputs and best practices for development and technical documentation.
  • Manage reliability and observability meeting MTTR goals for Fraud and Risk products and applications.
  • Applied knowledge of Agile practices
  • Strong awareness of emerging trends in software engineering with effective communication and verbal skills.

Compensation:
The base pay for this position generally ranges between $107,000.00 to $180,200.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
