YouTube Video Editor (Long-Form + VFX)

HighKey Agency is a digital PR and social media company specializing in building elite personal and brand presences in the aesthetic industry, from top-tier plastic surgeons to high-growth med spas.

We engineer content systems that drive visibility, inbound demand, and long-term brand equity at scale.

Our team moves fast, executes at a high level, and is obsessed with results. If you’re looking to break into a high-performance agency environment, this is your entry point.

Position Overview
We are hiring a YouTube Video Editor with strong experience editing direct-to-camera YouTube content, interviews, podcasts, and educational long-form videos (not cinematic films or documentaries.)

This role is focused on virality, not cinematic storytelling.

You should be comfortable editing talking-head content with:

  • Fast, intentional pacing
  • Jump cuts, pattern interrupts, and on-screen emphasis
  • Motion graphics, light VFX, and visual overlays that enhance clarity and retention

You will be responsible for producing 4–12 YouTube videos per month, including:

  • Full long-form edits
  • YouTube-optimized intros/outros
  • High-click-through thumbnails
  • Occasional short-form cutdowns derived from long-form content

Key Responsibilities

  • Edit long-form YouTube videos (direct-to-camera, interviews, podcasts, educational content)
  • Optimize pacing, structure, and visual flow for viewer retention
  • Add motion graphics, light VFX, callouts, captions, and on-screen emphasis
  • Create YouTube thumbnails designed for high CTR (not cinematic posters)
  • Produce clean, engaging intros and outros aligned with YouTube best practices
  • Occasionally, create short-form clips from long-form videos
  • Collaborate with internal short-form editors to maintain brand consistency
  • Work directly with creators and internal strategists to execute the content vision
  • Proactively suggest improvements to structure, visuals, and presentation
What This Role Is Not

To be explicit, this role is not for:

  • Cinematic filmmakers
  • Wedding/travel/documentary editors
  • Film-style storytelling specialists

We are looking for YouTube-first editors who understand how content actually performs on the platform.

  • This is to see whether candidates are capable of editing at this level, and our skills test would then verify if the candidate can actually deliver it in
    practice.

Qualifications
  • Proven experience editing YouTube-native long-form content
  • Portfolio demonstrating:
    • Talking-head YouTube videos
    • Retention-focused editing
    • Motion graphics / VFX used to enhance clarity
  • Strong understanding of:
    • YouTube pacing & viewer psychology
    • Retention curves and pattern interrupts
    • Visual reinforcement of spoken content
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Final Cut Pro, or similar
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and hit deadlines consistently
  • Strong communication skills and ability to take creative direction
  • Bonus: Experience working with educational, business, or personal brand content

Compensation

$200 per long-form video (should take approx. 5 hours per video)

Complex long-form video: $500 per edit (requires a lot more skill/animations/etc.)

Why Join HighKey

  • Work with high-level creators and brands in a fast-growing niche
  • Be part of a performance-driven agency that values execution over fluff
  • Gain exposure to high-volume, high-impact YouTube content systems

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
