The Logistics Manager supports Planning, Procurement, Sales, and Customer Care by ensuring cost-effective, compliant, and on-time movement of components, work-in-process (WIP), and finished goods (FG). This role is accountable for freight spend management, service-level performance (UFR/OTIF), and continuous improvement initiatives that reduce disruptions, chargebacks, and delivery exceptions.

Responsibilities:

Transportation & Cost Management

  • Manage inbound and outbound freight operations across international and domestic lanes.
  • Own transportation budget; monitor, forecast, and report freight spend against plan.
  • Recommend shipping modes, routing, and alternatives to balance cost, speed, and service.
  • Create and maintain transportation dashboards by lane (cost, transit time, utilization).

Carrier & Forwarder Management

  • Lead sourcing, contracting, and performance management of carriers and freight forwarders.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for logistics partners.
  • Review and approve international shipments prior to execution.
  • Approve freight invoices, manage accessorial disputes, run accruals and period-end true-ups, and maintain lane rate tables.

International Logistics & Compliance

  • Coordinate international shipments with freight forwarders and customs brokers.
  • Ensure accurate, compliant documentation and Incoterms governance.
  • Manage detention, demurrage, and visibility to duties and taxes.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, HAZMAT, and internal policies.

Service Level & Customer Support

  • Support Unit Fill Rate (UFR) and On Time In Full (OTIF) targets through proactive execution and exception management.
  • Own retailer routing guide compliance and OTIF performance.
  • Partner with Customer Care and Sales to resolve delivery issues and support chargeback prevention and disputes.
  • Manage and resolve freight damage claims with carriers and insurance providers.

 Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Interface closely with Planning and Procurement to align shipment priorities and meet production and delivery deadlines.
  • Provide transportation visibility and shipment status support to Sales and Customer Care.
  • Support ASN, EDI, and transportation-related system issues as needed.
  • Lead peak planning and disruption mitigation (e.g., port congestion, weather events, labor actions).

 Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead cross-functional execution (individual contributor role; no direct reports).
  • Identify root causes of service failures and lead corrective action plans.
  • Continuously improve logistics processes, cost efficiency, and service performance.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in freight, logistics, or transportation management.
  • Strong knowledge of consumer goods supply chains.
  • Experience managing international and domestic transportation networks.
  • Familiarity with TMS platforms, EDI/ASN processes, and inventory management systems.
  • Experience with major retailer logistics requirements (e.g., Walmart, Target, Walgreens, CVS, Ulta).
  • Advanced Excel skills; strong analytical skills and financial acumen.
  • Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • High attention to detail, integrity, and a collaborative, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Thrives and self-motivated when managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Benefits

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
