Reporting to the Localization Proofreading Lead, the Localization Proofreader 1 is responsible for proofreading translations to ensure linguistic and cultural accuracy.
This role is a full-time, on-site position based 5 days a week at our Downtown LA studio.
In this role, you can expect to be responsible for:
- Quality Assurance:
- Review Korean-to-English translations for accuracy.
- Record any errors found for internal metric reporting.
- Consistency and Style:
- Maintain consistency in terminology and formatting throughout all localized materials, ensuring alignment with established glossaries and translation memories.
- Ensure that any special translation rules such as character limits or formatting requirements are followed.
- Contextual Accuracy:
- Confirm that translations are accurate for the context in which they will be used, either by personal best judgment or by consulting with editors, translators, or developers.
- Localization Testing Support:
- Review game scripts during localization quality assurance testing rounds to ensure consistency across text from multiple translation batches and confirm that all requested revisions have been made and applied.
- Review of Graphics and Assets:
- Participate in the review of localized graphics, images, or assets to ensure they are contextually appropriate and free from errors.
- Feedback and Revisions:
- Provide constructive feedback to the translation team or editors, suggesting revisions and improvements to enhance the quality of the localized content.
- Collaboration:
- Collaborate with other members of the localization team, including translators, editors, and project managers, to address questions and maintain effective communication throughout the localization process.
- This proofreader role may occasionally require ad-hoc translation work as needed.
To be successful in this role, your background includes:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant major or previous professional localization experience.
- Fluency in Korean and English.
- Entry-level candidates or those with 1-3 years of relevant translation/proofreading experience.
- Strong attention to detail and an eye for linguistic nuances.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to adapt to specific platform requirements and adhere to established style guides.
- Experience in quality assurance, translation and proofreading is a plus.
- Familiarity with games and the terminology used in them.
- Comfortable working independently.
