Forbes Intelligence specializes in collecting and validating data used to produce Forbes’ data driven lists and rankings—working with both internal stakeholders and external data partners to help create authoritative, timely, and accurate lists that serve the audience of Forbes high net worth individuals, c-level executives, entrepreneurs and innovators. These lists also help listmakers understand how they compare to others in their industry, sector and regions. This role on the Forbes Intelligence team will play a key role in shaping how Forbes interprets and activates list data to help inform editorial coverage, marketing impact, and commercial storytelling. This role is responsible for analyzing finalized Accolades list data to identify meaningful movements, patterns, and comparative insights across companies, sectors, and industries. This role does not produce published editorial content for Forbes.com, but instead develops data-driven insights and narratives that are handed off to Editorial partners for further development and publication. The List Insights Manager supports the development of Forbes lists by analyzing ranking data and surfacing meaningful, differentiated insights that help to inform editorial and marketing narratives. This role focuses on identifying trends, movements, anomalies, and macro patterns within finalized list data and translating those findings into structured insight briefs that can guide deeper reporting, social campaigns, and Accolades positioning. The List Insights Manager serves as the bridge between structured list data and storytelling.  They will partner closely with the Editorial and Accolades teams, as well as internal stakeholders, to ensure each list launches with clear, compelling insight narratives grounded in data. This role is distinct from methodology-focused editorial roles; it is responsible for analyzing and interpreting list data, not drafting methodology articles.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze finalized rankings data to identify key movements (e.g., year-over-year rank changes), underlying score drivers, and comparative performance across sectors and peer groups
  • Investigate ranking changes (e.g., major improvements, declines, new entrants) to uncover potential drivers and contextual themes
  • Develop 5–10 differentiated, data-backed insights per list cycle to highlight what is unique about the current year
  • Utilize list data to develop structured “insight briefs” or cheat sheets that summarize key narratives, macro patterns, and notable profiles, partnering with Editorial teams who translate these insights into published content
  • Share insights across Editorial, Accolades, and Marketing teams to help inform storytelling, client engagement, and campaign development to inform storytelling, client engagement and revenue-generating outreach
  • Partner with Editorial leads to suggest story angles for deeper reporting
  • Translate list insights into clear, engaging narratives for use in marketing materials, social campaigns, and audience engagement initiatives
  • Ensure insights are grounded in validated data and aligned with finalized methodologies
  • Maintain documentation and context around ranking trends to support consistency and defensibility
  • Contribute to the development of data-driven reports and business-facing materials that leverage insights from Forbes list data
The Ideal Candidate
  • 3+ years of experience in research, analytics, strategy, business intelligence, data journalism, or a related field
  • Strong ability to analyze structured datasets, including identifying trends, patterns, and anomalies across rankings data, and translating those findings into clear, defensible insights and narratives
  • Advanced required; comfort working with large datasets
  • Experience working with business intelligence tools and interpreting survey data, including the ability to independently explore data outputs and extract insights.
  • Experience translating quantitative findings into clear, concise narrative summaries across editorial, marketing, or business contexts
  • Ability to identify patterns, anomalies, and macro themes within rankings data
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with editorial, marketing, and commercial stakeholders, effectively communicating data-driven insights and aligning on how those insights are translated into content, campaigns, and commercial narratives
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate data-driven insights and their implications to cross-functional stakeholders
  • Ability to manage insight development across multiple concurrent list cycles, prioritizing deliverables within established project timelines and in coordination with the Forbes Accolades Project Manager
  • Experience supporting rankings, benchmarks, large research programs, or data-driven initiatives involving structured comparisons and analysis preferred.
  • Experience in data journalism, consulting, business intelligence, or similar fields, with demonstrated experience analyzing data and translating findings into clear, actionable insights or narratives preferred.
  • Familiarity with social or marketing campaign strategy informed by data insights
  • Experience working in a media, publishing, or brand research environment

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
