About the role 

Albert is looking for a Senior Corporate Counsel to help drive our business forward by handling a wide range of legal matters but with a particular focus on commercial transactions and financial services regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will be business-minded, practical, comfortable in a fast-paced environment, highly responsive, and team-oriented. The Senior Corporate Counsel will also have excellent legal and business judgment, decision-making and problem-solving skills, and a demonstrated ability to work independently with frequently shifting priorities.

  • Product & Tech: You quickly learn a product’s functionality and underlying technology, applying this new knowledge to your daily work.
  • Communication: You can distill complex legal and business matters into plain English and actionable summary form
  • Judgment: You have excellent legal and business judgment and strong analytical skills

Responsibilities

  • Draft and negotiate mission-critical sponsor, partner, and vendor agreements working closely with internal business partners.
  • Provide legal advice on matters that commonly arise in a startup setting, including resolving customer and vendor disputes, intellectual property licensing, real estate, and employee relations.
  • Support strategic transactions, including acquisitions, equity raises, debt financings, and other corporate development matters.
  • Develop and maintain a strong knowledge of Albert’s products and work closely with our product and marketing teams to help the business grow while mitigating legal risk.
  • Research, stay current, and advise on regulatory developments impacting Albert’s business lines, including state and federal data privacy laws and rules enforced by the FTC, CFPB, SEC, and FINRA.
  • Update Albert’s form agreements, Terms of Use, and Privacy Policy as the business and legal environment evolves.
  • Develop and maintain contracting playbooks to ensure we utilize a standardized approach to frequently negotiated business and legal terms.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel on issues affecting Albert’s business lines and internal operations.
  • Serve as the primary legal contact for internal business teams and Albert’s product sponsors and business partners.

Requirements

  • A JD degree from an ABA-accredited law school and an active bar license in good standing. 
  • 8+ years of experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts for financial services and/or technology companies, preferably in-house.
  • Experience advising multiple stakeholders and teams across an organization, including Product, Growth, Engineering, Compliance, IT/Information Security, and HR.
  • Outstanding communication skills - you must be able to clearly and succinctly present complicated issues, enabling effective collaboration with internal teams and external partners and vendors.
  • Ability to manage a diverse and complex workload while maintaining priorities and proactively anticipating issues in an ever-evolving and fast-paced startup environment.
